I had a similar problem which i just fixed, it was only in like a certain rpm range, like 2400ish, a metal on metal buzz/rattle sort of sound, happened on accel and decel sometimes, kind of like something metal in/on the exhaust was resonating, making it vibrate against something else metal very quickly. Search on here and narrowed it down to the fuel pump(didn't think it was that), a heat shield between the exhaust and drive line (or one of many other heat shields near the exhaust), a catalytic converter on its way out, or a broken exhaust hanger(ding ding ding!!!) It turned out to be the exhaust hanger closest to the engine, right after the down pipe, i have thermal exhaust and there are two metal strips that are welded onto the exhaust pipe(one on top and one on bottom), then they are welded to eachother at the other end (makes a little triangle) and that end is welded to another metal piece which is attached to the rubber part of the hanger. One of the two metal strips had broken loose on the end where they are connected to each other and it was just vibrating like a mofo, i jammed a thick piece of rubber in between them for the time being until i get around to getting them re-welded
NOTE: if you examine your exhaust hangers make sure to give them a good tug because mine looked completely fine until i just randomly tried to move it out of desperation thinking i would never find the source of the rattle and it moved a little, enough to show me the crack where it had broken (damn those gigantic speed bumps)
hope this helps i know i hated that damn rattle
