    A6 Sedan Spoiler Project

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
There are two things about the body of the C5 A6 that I have never been fond of- 1). the curve under the front bumper, and 2) the curve of the trunk.

I decided to first address the trunk issue. I looked at the existing lip spoilers on the market and none of them seemed aggressive enough. The OEM wing spoiler just doesn't look right either. A few months ago I decided to build a wing spoiler, but after about 40 hours of work, and seeing it would take at least another 40 hours to finish, I started hunting for an existing spoiler that would fit the car and (hopefully) match the styling and lines of the A6.

I came accross this spoiler a couple weeks ago. I've been tinkering with the angle of the legs, and now that I have it close, I sprayed it last night and here it is. I haven't mounted it yet.

    What I like:
-The trailing edge goes well with the taillight lines.
-The sides line up perfectly with the window line.
-The overall curviness of the spoiler seems to go pretty well with the curves of the car, while hiding the one part I wanted to change.

I think I might try to give it a little more upward tilt. One thing I don't like is that the leading edges on the sides kind of stick out. I am hoping more tilt, and slightly higher overall will correct this.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? (other than the car is freek'n dirty)

    Re: A6 Sedan Spoiler Project

I'm impressed you can build such an item. Seems a bit more than I'd like to see, kind of prefer the lip approach (RS6) to the wing approach (though I used to have an S type Acura that had similar one and it worked on that). Anyway, I agree that spoiler is good idea.

Why so far beyond sides of trunk? Let's see more of the bike, too!

    Re: A6 Sedan Spoiler Project

Yeah, I just can't get in to any of the lip spoilers for this car. I wish I could. It'd be cheaper. They just don't break up that curve enough. Also, I think everyone (spoiler designers) seems to think that the spoiler has to line up with the taillights. THAT is not neccesarily the best place on the car.

Just food for thought: How many other vehicles are out there that use the front or rear of the taillight as a guide for a spoiler vs. the overall profile of the car? Though, the RS6 lip spoiler DOES well with both the profile and the tails.

Here's some more pics. Thanks to my lovely daughter for holding the spoiler on the car or pics. She's 10 and has already spoken for the car when she gets her license.

I'm kinda partial to the understated elegance and sexiness that is the RS6 lip spoiler.

That last shot almost hit me as being the old Acura CL-S, or even the older Toyota Camry SE with it's spoiler.

I applaud the craftsmanship, it looks well-matched fitment and color-wise.

Check the gap on the front fender....its lowered. Nice thing about Coilovers....I rotated the tires the other day, and was thinking I'd raise up the rear and see what it looks like with a "raked" look. Yeah, I don't like it either. I'm thinking of changing out suspension so I haven't bothered dropping it back down

Looks high on all 4 corners, that's cool that you can raise and lower it at will!

Why do you want to chnage your suspensions? isn't C/O top choice?

I'm not digging it. I just don't think it meshes with the jellybean roundness of the C5. I understand what you are trying to do though. I want a spoiler in the back to take the thunder away from the Nav Pimple on my trunklid.

Meh... doesn't look right. Have you ever thought about using a B7 spolier or C6, so that it goes on the trunk and has the end piece on both fenders?? I'd like that...

Sorry dude, not feeling that look at all. It looks too mid-90's ish for me and makes the car look dated.

Gigi: Idaho roads Even on the softest setting, its just to stiff for a daily driver.....where I live. It really kills me, too, because the suspension I am running right now is absolutely incredible on a semi-smooth road. No body roll at all and pin-point steering precision.

Guess that's the price I pay for living in an area where I can snowboard, whitewater raft, and wakeboard within a half-hour drive. I should just trade it in and go with what the locals drive- '77 Chevy 4x4 with 6" lift.

How about a whale tail that's similar to the OEM RS6 just a little longer where it sticks out a little more. Something like a drag car would have..

Thanks for the input guys. Anyone want to post anything else they've seen on the market for our cars?

Wofman: 2006 Yamaha FJR1300. I got a wild hair this weekend and removed the light silver piece below and to the rear of the gas tank and the pieces below the seat. They are currently in my shop getting refinished in Carbon Fiber.
