    Boost gauge option (GlowShift)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Nothing special, just one I haven't heard anyone mention. I figured in case anyone else is considering they can see what it looks like in the car.

I saw the GlowShift one on ebay and liked the simplicity and natural look of it so I figured I'd try it out (for $35 why not). Shipped across the country only 3 days after ordering... nice. Anyways, so far so good. Very bright and from what I can tell accurate... so far . It has 7 colors (purple, blue, green, yellow, turquoise, red, white, then a constant alternating option and a smooth transferring one) which the red and white match perfectly to the stock colors. Oh, and the last little thing that I like is that the lens is somewhat curved so it distorts/magnifies the further numbers away from you.

    so here it is installed...

    night (obviously)...

Purple for you fruitcakes out there...

    Re: Boost gauge option (GlowShift)

I usually have my windows down and don't use the air, and if I really need the air there is the one by the door. Also I wasnt sure if I was going to be able to read it if it was in the center vent since the number sit back a little bit possibly making 0 hard to read.

    Re: Boost gauge option (GlowShift)

This is gonna sound like an extremely noob question, but what exactly is the purpose of the boost gauge? I know to monitor the boost psi, but what specific reasons/uses?

the ease of making sure your car is running right as far as boost and vacuum go. Since those are very important for our cars to run in a healthy manner.

    Re: Boost gauge option (GlowShift)

Wouldn't you be able to tell if there was something wrong with the turbos without it though? If not, how would you know theres a problem using the gauge, jsut seeing something out of the ordinary?

    Re: Boost gauge option (GlowShift)

basically. You usually can feel it, but its just nice to actually see it.

example... before today my car would spike at 15psi then immediately drop to 8 and taper to 5psi. Prior to having the gauge I could definitely feel it but I didn't know it was as bad as what it was(minus the vag-com reading). So today I threw in a MBC in place of the N75(not permanently since its hard on the turbos) and now hit 18 and taper to 15psi.

nice, I couldn't justify any reason for the tinted face besides not being able to read it during the day (from what I hear), is that true?

just out of curiosity. is there a way to easily measure the boost from the Left side turbo and the Right side turbo independently ? Other then the typical spot after the FPR for one boost guage ?

says the guy with the "Glow Shift"

actually, it looks VERY familiar to the ProSport gauge (numbers, design, magnified glass) except the prosport bezel is a little different and has tinted front glass.

and regarding the tinted gauge during daytime - it lights up even during the day so it's easily readable (i.e. it wires as a key-on powered accessory, not to the headlight switch or anything..)

An MBC is only as hard on the turbos as you make it.

A boost gauge is most useful for making sure the car is boosting properly and for tuning purposes.

its a piece of cake to read durnig the day time if its on but when its tinted you can't really see through it. unless you hit some good lighting from the sun, then you'll be able to see through it a little. i just think the design is awesome. the face is absolutely blank and then lights up unsuspectingly. it gives it more of a digital look when it turns on i guess you could say

anywhere from 19-21 is usually where ya wanna be. at least 20-21 when the car is warmed up and all. like in the AM when i start it up it sits right on the other side of 20 towards 19, then once everything is warm and lubed lol its 21ish

The install wasn't any worse than installing another DIY boost gauge except that there are a couple more wires... no biggie. Just have to take your time.
