    Bad day

Got home from school today, went to dinner with the family, got home and met up with my friend a mechanic literally the house behind me. I asked him to get my DV on sometime hence I got flashed yesterday. He says ehh its only a 20 min job we'll do it now so I was like ok cool. We get the car up on the jack by the front engine mount I think its called, that steel thing where u put the jack. Somehow I'm guessing the jack wasnt put exactly even onto the engine mount and slipped- next stop.........the oil pan !!! All my oil leaked out within 15 seconds and I'm out of a car the day before the SAT and 2 days of work. Well now tomorrow morning while i'm taking the SAT the car will be towed (flatbed, of course) to my dad's repair place where hopefully they can have it finished by monday. Just ranting....

Sorry to hear the news, but that was not a good place to jack up the car. You live and you learn

+1 there are jacking locations on both sides of the car, i just move my jack a little far back then when its up i put the jack stand there.

Yup, live and learn. It's probably better it happened now then later in the week, so now I can have it fixed before a big local event in CT on the 10th.

Yea, he is, he feels really bad, I know I would too if I ever messed up someone's car. Its ok nothing is really worth getting so mad nd giving yourself all the anger and stress especially before a big test. Shit happens, so now its gotta get fixed its just a inconvenience. I mean, I almost wanted to cry when it happened but now its just like ahh we just gotta do what we gotta do now, get this stuff over with.

    Re: Bad day

those SAT's aren't so bad they are what u learned till 8th grade, just do well on the English portion don't skimp out on it like i did, and find something to laugh at during the test, it relieves stress much more! and if it's the SAT 2's then those aren't bad either, my math couldn't be worse but i found that math level 2 was very easy! GL!

    Re: Bad day

    Sorry to hear. That sucks!

I never jack my car up in the front. I always use the locations on the rocker panels near the firewall.

New oil pans are not cheap. Easily over $100 if I recall. You also have to drop the front subframe to drop the oil pan. Its about a 2-3 hour job if you have a car lift.

What metal thing did he jack it up with? ..., The metal of the subframe or the snub mount?

you know -- it speaks volumes for you that you can see things in this way, even at your age. I'm not much older than you, and i know I'd have trouble seeing things in the same light. best of luck to you with the repairs, it makes me proud to see you handling it in such a mature manner. (lately i've been losing faith in our younger a4 owners...) I wish you the best -- and when you get that DV in... MAN ARE YOU GONNA ENJOY IT!

    again, best of luck man.
