    Hey guys,

I searched for this code but the only thing I found was people cleared it and it never came back.

18058 - Powertrain Data Bus: Missing Message from Instrument Cluster
    P1650 - 35-00 - -

I cleared it but it came back. Not sure what I need to do to fix it. Any ideas?

Sounds like either a bad cluster or a broken wire that communicates with another module, is it an auto or manual?

Re: VAG-COM code: Searched but couldn't find

It's a manual. At one point, the check engine light was not wired up so I figured that was why it was coming up and so I cleared it. Not sure why it came back. The only other thing I can think of at the moment is the mpg calculator in the information center doesn't work right. It only displays 5.0 mpg all the time. The rest of the cluster works fine.

Did you scan the instruments module for DTCs?

Re: VAG-COM code: Searched but couldn't find

I couldn't find that code on my Bentley at all however, there is a code 18057: Data Bus Powertrain Missing message from ABS Control Module.

The manual says to test the resistance between two terminals on the ECU, but my guess is the terminals are difference since the codes are different.

I'm thinking it sounds like the ECU is dying, or you have a short somewhere in your CAN-Bus system.

Simple: click on the button circled in the picture in VAG-Com.

If you don't get a response then it means that your instrument cluster needs to be replaced. If you do get a response from the controller, then select "Fault Codes - 02" and report back with the codes, if any.

I tried your steps chris. I get a response from the cluster but no codes. That code is coming from the engine module.
