    Quiet, low dust brake pads?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have 89,000mi on my B6 A4. I replaced my rotors and pads at 60,000mi. I ordered all of them from ECS Tuning. I got the Brembo OEM Replacement rotors (front and back) and PBR Ceramic pads.

It is time for new pads and I am thinking that this time I want to go with OEM pads. These PBR pads make so damn much brake dust and they squeeled a lot initially. I don't race, I am a standard daily-driver kind of guy. Where can I get a good deal on quiet, low-dust pads?

I figure I will take my car to a place in San Diego like Midas or whatnot and have them turn my rotors and install the new pads. Does it seem logical to turn the rotors after 30K miles? I heard that it is best to do this, so that they "pair" with the new rotors, right? What about replacing my brake fluid. Is it time? I could probably have them bleed the brakes all the way out and then go with all new fluid too?

    Thanks!

After washing my car and cleaning my wheels beautifully, they last maybe 2-3 days most and the wheels are lined with with brake dust. It's ugly.

Get the PBR Deluxe, you can go weeks with no brake dust.

Re: Quiet, low dust brake pads?

Yeah I see those on ECStuning...

    But only for REAR

What about turning my rotors. I should probably be able to get 2 pads per rotor, right? so turn them once and then the next time probably replace the pads and rotors again? Just general rule of thumb, right?

Hey, how were those Brembo rotors? Are they plain OE? I heard that the hub area easily rusts and looks ugly after a while, is that right? I'm looking to get some plain OE brembos too. As for pads I've been hearing that Hawks are really good for low dust and good performance as well...might want to look into these, I;m getting these for sure but still don't know which rotors to get...

And yeah when you say turn the rotors, do you mean re-surface?

These pads kick ass when it comes to an OEM replacement. DON'T get metalmasters or ceramic!
The deluxe are agreat pad and zero dust. I put them on my wifes car and literally have not washed the wheels for 3 months and they still look clean. Amazing.
You don't need to buy em from ECS...google auto parts and you'll come up will many online parts retailers who carry em for cheap and free shipping. ECS is not the cheapest out there.

Rejex works great on my wheels. When dust finally does start to build up, you just hit with a hose and it's all shiny again.

So far I have been happy with these OE brembo rotors. When the calipers come off, it will be interesting to see how the rotors have worn. If they are still good, then I am completely satisfied with these. We'll see...

Yeah re-surface aka "turn" them, as it has been said.

I cannot find the deluxe FRONT pads.
I checked a bunch of sites, I am still looking though... I even contacted PBR, they assured me they exist. I just need to search harder I guess.

    HAWK HPS.

This same type of thread comes up often, and the majority of the responses are all for Hawk HPS for the reason below.

OK. Yeah my understanding is, usually when brake pads are replaced the, rotors need to be "turned" too. But then again it depends on the condition of the rotors, ie. smoothness, thinkness, etc...at least that's what I was told by most mechanics...

So did your Brembo rotors rust around the hub outside area?

That's weird...I looked too and can't find. I got them for my B5 S4 calipers and the rear and for my wife's BMW but you're right they don't seem to be available for the B6 front. Hawk HPS are very good pads too but I couldn't find any for a decent price up here in Canada so I went with PBR. I had Pagids on my old B6 setup and they were very, very good too but dusty. Good OE pad though.

I used Hawk ceramics on the front - no dust, good performance.
