so my outside temperature gauge has not been reading right. today it went all the way down to -20 degrees which made my a/c cut off....

i actually watched the temperature drop all the way down and back up again to the right outside temperature...which in turn made the a/c come back on.

what do you guys think?? bad thermometer? i know its somewhere behind the front bumper...does anyone know where i could get one?

there are two! one in the intake of the airbox and one in the bumper if you have a vagcom you can determine which it is. mine was the one in the airbox.

luckily i had a spare from when i bought a used evap box.
As i recall the parts is dealer only and around $100. You really need to try disconnecting one or the other and see what happens. this will be the best thing to try since you don't have a vagcom

How easy is it to replace either of these thermometers? I have the same issue.

It is a pain in the ass to change, I wouldn't touch it unless it is making your A/C shut off like mentioned above... The part that displays the temperature is the G89 sensor. It is located in the intake of the HVAC system. If you take your cabin air filter out, you will be able to see the probe... IIRC, the part is only $30 or so... I will get part numbers soon...

I get similar temperature reading's from my gauge, but have never experienced it shutting off my A/C.
