You know what, you should start 2 lists.
1 list of shit that absolutely needs to be fixed now. NEEDS.
2nd list will be your "wants".
3071 is advertised as a RS2 killer but the downfall is you have to deal with lag in the early RPMS. Plus as with any "big turbo" upgrade you're going to want all the accompanying supporting upgrades. That's like buying an Audi with a cloth interior. What's the point?
Genuine RS2 setup will run you much more than $2k. There is a lot more to it than you have listed.
You can find compromise in a setup such as GT2871RS which will offer you good low end, tuneability to 400 HP maybe 425 (as advertised) and you will be roughly same price range as a RS2 setup w/ your Motronic ECU. if you want to talk standalone ECU, that's another ballpark and budget.
Speaking of which, I also approached my build w/ a budget in mind.
Purchased my UrS w/ 186K last Feb. I only have 191K on it now, but have been religiously drilling down all the maintenance items before I start turbo upgrade, which at this point i am deciding on the GT2871RS.
That being said, you can "build around it" until you are ready for the main turbo upgrade (Turbo, Exhaust mani) by knocking off all the "smaller" upgrade items off the list...and treating them as needed maintenance.
Samco Hoses, FMIC, Injectors, Diverter Valve, Fuel Pump, Plugs, etc ...
Lastly, don't deny your self a good Wideband monitoring solution because i've noticed these 20V 5cyl Turbo engines can be really finicky to tune, and it helps to have the right device to log such as the Zeitronix unit.
I personally upgraded to a MTM 1+ chip by Bob Pastore FIRST (around $500).... then started all the "maintenance" items listed above. In theory the Stage 1+ programming will handle all the moderate bolt ons. So that when i'm ready to roll w/ the GT2871RS, all i need to do is buy the Turbo, Exhaust manifold, and injectors then get it re-programmed.
My point is the last thing you want to do is buy a bigger turbo then have all this other shit fail on you. Then, the car wont be as fun....trust me
