    Best Mods for your UrS4/S6?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I bought a 1993 Audi S4 a couple months ago. I absolutely love this car! Always wanted one, and finally got one. I used to own a 2002 225 TT. Don't miss it at all!

I was wondering what set-ups you guys have on your UrS4's. I'd like to get the GT3071R package from 034 Motorsports, but don't have the cash to buy it. Saving up for a house etc. I'd like to toss about 2K max into mods this summer on my S-car and was wondering what makes the most HP for the buck. For about 1500 I could get a garrett RS2 rep turbo, injectors and chip.

    I appreciate your suggestions.

Re: Best Mods for your UrS4/S6?

You know what, you should start 2 lists.

1 list of shit that absolutely needs to be fixed now. NEEDS.

2nd list will be your "wants".

3071 is advertised as a RS2 killer but the downfall is you have to deal with lag in the early RPMS. Plus as with any "big turbo" upgrade you're going to want all the accompanying supporting upgrades. That's like buying an Audi with a cloth interior. What's the point?

Genuine RS2 setup will run you much more than $2k. There is a lot more to it than you have listed.

You can find compromise in a setup such as GT2871RS which will offer you good low end, tuneability to 400 HP maybe 425 (as advertised) and you will be roughly same price range as a RS2 setup w/ your Motronic ECU. if you want to talk standalone ECU, that's another ballpark and budget.

Speaking of which, I also approached my build w/ a budget in mind.

Purchased my UrS w/ 186K last Feb. I only have 191K on it now, but have been religiously drilling down all the maintenance items before I start turbo upgrade, which at this point i am deciding on the GT2871RS.

That being said, you can "build around it" until you are ready for the main turbo upgrade (Turbo, Exhaust mani) by knocking off all the "smaller" upgrade items off the list...and treating them as needed maintenance.

Samco Hoses, FMIC, Injectors, Diverter Valve, Fuel Pump, Plugs, etc ...

Lastly, don't deny your self a good Wideband monitoring solution because i've noticed these 20V 5cyl Turbo engines can be really finicky to tune, and it helps to have the right device to log such as the Zeitronix unit.

I personally upgraded to a MTM 1+ chip by Bob Pastore FIRST (around $500).... then started all the "maintenance" items listed above. In theory the Stage 1+ programming will handle all the moderate bolt ons. So that when i'm ready to roll w/ the GT2871RS, all i need to do is buy the Turbo, Exhaust manifold, and injectors then get it re-programmed.

My point is the last thing you want to do is buy a bigger turbo then have all this other shit fail on you. Then, the car wont be as fun....trust me

Re: Best Mods for your UrS4/S6?

PS : another case in point.... I went in for the timing belt job which was maybe $150 in parts and ended up changing every solenoid, switch, temp sensor, ISV, 2ndary water pump, etc on the engine along with 034 throttle body and phenolic spacer for IM. I think I spent an extra $1000 alone.

Classic case of "Well.....while i'm in here...might as well"

it was much needed though because at the time i was having smog issues and i had failed smog 3 times already.

Re: Best Mods for your UrS4/S6?

i agree with all these guys, you don't have to go crazy gt30 and up to have a lot of fun and power in the s6. for me, i would be totally set with a good chip set, H&R suspension, good intake and exhaust. maybe a nice big lipped wheel. then again i also want to flat black my s6, put a pirate flag on the front hood with a scull and crossbones, and just have a scary looking demeanor to my S.... not that i would ever do that. but i think i would enjoy it. lol but i think if i had the 2-3k i would do the first think i said.

Re: Best Mods for your UrS4/S6?

Trust me I know how much parts can add up on these 20VT. I've got a project Coupe Quattro I've been doing slowly on the side. I spent a ton of $$$$ through 034 just building the lower end on my 3B that I'm tossing into my coupe. Plans are getting the GT3071R set-up on stand alone for her.

My S4 has all the maintenance done to it. New seals, t-belt, water pump, spark plugs, tranny flush etc. It already has the samco hoses, forge DV, MTM 1+ chip by Bob Pastore, suspension, and a cold air intake.

The car really doesn't need anything maintenance wise. I was just looking for a little extra power for the s-car. She's my daily driver, so I don't wanna do anything too drastic.

I was just trolling through and came across this thread..... Coincedentally I just sold my superchared 99 A4 with the intentions of picking up a 95 S6. Well ive pinned one down from a guy in my area who has owned 4 S-cars in the past. Even more...the car is extremely clean with 98,000 on the clock and has every mod you listed plus more including 6spd, upgraded tranny & oil coolers and FMIC with the exception of a stage 3+ Hoppen chip in stead of MRC. The seller says it is by far the fastest S-car he has owned and like I said this is the 4th S-car he's had (not to mention his wifes 2.7t A6 that is in the driveway too) ............ He could not give me any specifics on hp/tq numbers but my question is what would you "ballpark" a set up like this to put down if it were to be dyno'd?

What did u get from 034 ? Scat rods? I would go the RS2 route for a reliable DD, uncle Bob P does have an upgraded RS2 chip and VMAP set that puts down 400 crank hp and still run stock mani if u dont have the $$ for a RS2 mani...
RS2 turbo,RS2 injectors,RS2 MAF,RS2 cams or (7A exhaust cam),RS2 water pump and belt to match(optional), Chip set (or consider standalone?), FMIC,7A flywheel and a new upgraded clutch.......over 2G's to

$1500 might not get u much these days....go to www.audifans.com marketplace for parts for sale, might find what u need there..I know zepmoreau on www.justfourrings.com has some stuff(RS2 rep inj) for sale and some other odds and ends..

I ended up getting a GT3071 turbo and a 034 RS2 High Output Exhaust Manifold for the S4. The stage 1 3071 software and injectors are next on the list. 450HP should cure my hunger for more POWER!! :D I'll post pics when I get everything installed.

450? hmmm ..... I have a laundry list of upgrades as long as your arm including a Pastore chipped 470 hp ECU , GT3071 with .82 AR ,FMIC, and tubular header, and i might be hitting 460ish crank hp,dont really know cuz i havent dynoed the //S-hog yet...I now have the VEMS standalone in the car , and am looking to get rid of my Pastore chipped ECU,Bosch "orange top"injectors , and SQ MAF setup ,This will get u into the mid 400's hp...... If you want to work out a deal , let me know.....I have pics and the mod list is on "My S4 is back together" thread here..

Thanks for the interest, however I'm going to stick with 034.

Sounds like a nice set-up though on your S! Have you upgraded any of your engine internals?

Re: Best Mods for your UrS4/S6?

Just read your list of goodies. Wow your car is DECKED out!!

Nope no 034 standalone in the UrS4. I'm going to roll with the 034 3071 chip/package with my stock wire harness. I don't wanna push this car much further than 450Hp. I'm sure I'll eventually beef the lower end in this car someday, but not for quite awhile. She's my D.D.

However, I've already got everything I need to build my bottom end in my extra 3B that I've got sitting around. It's going in my Coupe Quattro. I'll be running 034 standalone in that car when I finally get around to building the car. Project begins once I buy a house in a year or so. Goal is 450-500 WHP.

Re: Best Mods for your UrS4/S6?

I just read the 034 specs on their 3071 chipset.... EVERYONE knows when going past 375 hp on the AAN with the stock internals is a very dangerous move, ur askin for trouble.... What A/R does your 3071 have, .63 or .82 ? what mileage is on your engine? Do you plan on upgrading your coils? Stock coils will not do very well over 350 hp, and Bosch F5DPOR plugs suck for this application ...I suggest NGK BK6RES gapped to .024, my plugs to great at sustained 28 psi...And 450 hp takes away from now being a reliable Daily Driver.....Trust Me

Re: Best Mods for your UrS4/S6?

This is a great thread guys, surprised I just found it today. We have more UrS4/S6 owners on here than I realized.

I can't wait to start playing with the engine on mine, it's been hard to resist. First thing I'll be doing is exhaust, hopefully in a few months.

I'd have to say I'm pretty spoiled having 034 so close to me. They're certainly a knowledgeable bunch of guys, and have been a joy to work with so far.

What bearings did you get for the main and rods ?
Did you get the Vic Reinz steel HG?
Get a TB cog for the crank shaft behind the crank pulley, several of us have noticed cracks , and mine was in 2 pieces when i did my rebuild...
Put in new exh. man. studs , get your pistons balanced(with pins and clips in place), change ALL your sensors , and go with new silicone for vacuum lines in the engine bay..Now is the time to get this done....
