    I was just thinking... instead of shipping your ecu to apr or revo or giac dealers.... could you just get like a software on ur computer computer, with a disk, where you could connect it directly to your port, tell it what upgrades u have (intercooler, intake, full exhaust, etc), what gas u running, etc etc etc.. and so it makes a map and loads it on ur car?

    my friend with mazda rx7 is doing it, he ordered his off of ebay.... he sais that what i should do, because thats what apr does to it when they get ur ecu...... so why cant i do it myself?.. is there a software like that on the market?

    i saw something like that on mjmautohaus... but thats a giac... and its just a little "usb memory plug" looking thingie, that connects to your port...

    let me know guys!

    Maybe I haven't looked hard enough, but they don't make a flash-based, user-programable chip that uses the factory ecu. Everything seems to be a 'mail-in-flash' (which I thoroughly don't believe in on any car with decent modification) or custom-tune by authorized dealers, which limits your flexability of mods, and your ability to constantly tweak your maps... Of the cars I've tuned that do have a user-programmable eeprom, it's not quite how your buddy with the wankel describes it. it's not as simple as checking the box that says 'greddy large fmic' & ' 3" turbo-back'... you need a basic fundamental understanding of tuning or you'll be back here posting a thread like "I think I blew my motor, how much timing is okay on our engine?". I beleive there's a few piggy-back systems made for our cars, but I haven't looked into those too much...

    Programs and hardware do exist, but from what I understand, there are very few people in the US using them. Most of the users are in Europe. I have a custom file on my A4 that was created by Evan at Absolute Automotive.

    I don't know the specifics, nor do I think Absolute will provide them. I do know that these files are flashed, and are stock files that have been edited/modified. NOTHING has been hacked. The hardware is definitely NOT cheap.
