Anything else to consider besides Hawk HPS brake pads?

My rear pads are worn down badly, in fact I am surprised that the light has not come on yet (or is that only for the front ones), but just by looking at them you can tell they have little life left. I am going to put my summer wheels back on soon and figured while I am getting that done I should replace the pads. I am going to replace all four, because why not? Hawk HPS pads only cost $140, and that is from tire-rack so I am sure you can get them for cheaper too. I am looking for a pad that bites a bit harder than stock but does not screech when I am coming to a stop, as far as dusting goes, I don't like it, but it is a fact of life and I can deal with cleaning my rims once a week, no biggie. I was also looking at Akebono Euro Ceramic Pads, but they seem more like an OEM replacement and I want better stopping power. Anything else to look at besides the Hawk HPS that is a good value and provides more stopping bite than OEM stuff?

My next concern is my rotors, they have never been replaced and my car has almost 80k on it, will they need to be resurfaced if I get new pads? Or am I better off just replacing them at the same time? If I am going to do that then I was looking at this StopTech Stage 2 kit...

    http://www.ecodetuning.com/shop/cart...t_detail&p=307

Seems like a good deal for $650 since it comes with pads, slotted rotors, SS lines and even new fluid. Or would I be better off just getting the HPS pads and then buying some Zimmermen rotors and new fluid separate?

I am just damn confused on what to do, all I know for sure is I need to change out my brake pads very soon and while I am doing it ifs worth it to upgrade the rotors as well or if the stock ones will still work OK for a while longer.

The sensor is only in the front inside pads. Hawk HPS will have the sensor as well so you have a direct OEM replacment.
I just ordered all my front once.

Sorry no advice on performance, but after some nights on the forums here this is what I thought is the best for my $$$ I like to spend.
Sure there is the possibility to do:
    SS
    Upgrade to B5 S4 brakes
    B6 S4 brakes
go for it if you like to spend more $$$.

Carbotech bobcats and Ferodo DS2500 will offer better bite. They both dust less than OEM, but Ferodos will likely dust more than HPS. Not sure about noise between these.

Re: Anything else to consider besides Hawk HPS brake pads?

Raceshopper had a great price for Hawk HPS when I got them. IMO best option with sensors. I hear better things on the Ferodo than I do on the Carbotechs. When I was deciding it was between the Hawks and Ferodos - I decided I wanted the sensor and went Hawk. If done properly, the squeal won't be there or rarely happens. I can't believe how little dust there is.

12/23/09 - My car has been phenomenal to me. Runs strong. Don't think I'm ever going to sell it. Rather throw $7k into it for a refresh than buy a new A4 that has no dipstick.

Re: Anything else to consider besides Hawk HPS brake pads?

Thanks for the info and advice guys. For the rotors, what if I just got these cheap Brembo OEM replacements?

    http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...4x032&code=yes

nothing fancy, not drilled or slotted, but they are cheap and prob work just fine. Any opinions on these? I was also considering Adam@SPP's rotors, which look very nice for $300 total for Fronts and Rears...but I have heard they take a long time to ship out, and I need to do this upgrade pretty soon. I could get the Brembo's and Hawk HPS pads for under $300 shipped and have the stuff here in like three days and be done with it. I like the look of slotted rotors, but I really don't think I need them, I just want to replace my pads since they are worn out and while I am at it I am wondering if I should just do the rotors too, and the Brembo's are so damn cheap I figure why not? Unless they really suck badly, and about the only bad thing I can find about them is that they rust in parts where the pads don't touch, and I honestly do not care about that, as long as they work well with the Hawks.

EDIT: Actually the Brembo's are $60 each, not a pair, so four of them would be $240, still not bad, but for that price I would rather look at Adam's maybe...

Carbotech Bobcats are another great street alternative to the Hawk HPS. I prefer the Ferrodo DS2500's over the bobcats. But the ferrodo's dust a little more and cost more.

Re: Anything else to consider besides Hawk HPS brake pads?

Braking is fine with the Carbotechs. The amazing thing is I can go weeks at a time with virtually no brake dust showing. I have Hawk HPS on the fronts and they dust a lot more than the Carbotechs.

Re: Anything else to consider besides Hawk HPS brake pads?

If you get the Hawk HPS, make sure the prongs on the front inside pads fit snug and make sure you use anti-squeal. Otherwise they will rattle and clank.
