Question *venting VC to oil catch can*

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
In the midst of my build I have the opporunity to drill and tap my VC to be able to vent to an oil catch can along with the crankcase vent, so should I go ahead and do that? I dont see why not, and pushing an 8k RPM redline will put plenty of pressure in my block. Is venting the head as important as the crankcase? and if I decide to do this does anyone know where I can get a dual inlet catch can that is also vented, I will look around, but if anyone knows of one off the top of their head lemme know.

It's probably not a bad idea seeing as how Audi/VW installed a factory vented valve cover in the later models. Probably a different issue, but I had problems with my oil cap seal getting blown out when driving the car hard (non vented original AEB valve cover)

Are you planning on running the hole in the block and the hole in the valve cover directly to a catch can with no vaccum source? I did that for a while and the inside of my motor looked terrible, not sure if it had anything to do with it but I'll be re-installing a somewhat factory PCV system (with a baffled catch can)

I planned on just running a vented can w/ two inlets, what do you mean your engine looked horrible? inside the crank case or the engine bay itself?

I ran for about 20k miles with the catch can set up like you are describing. Prior to that the engine looked perfect (such as pulling the valve cover and viewing the head), not a trace of sludge. 20k miles later, noticeable sludge/everything turned black. Also the cylinder walls were worn down pretty bad, couldn't see any cross hatching marks. I'm not blaming this on the catch can, but it's really the only major change I could think of causing this - no fresh air in crankcase or vacuum on rings.

I'm going to stick with a stock-like PCV system, but install a baffled catch can before the turbo inlet so that it doesn't pull (most of) the liquids back in through the turbo..especially after spending so much money on this motor.

The car is driven year round, almost daily. It's probably not an issue on a track car but I'm doing it to be safe.

That is the way to do it. Similar to stock but with an oil trap before the intake.

You want to check to see if your valve cover has the baffle in that spot where you want to tap for a line. If not you can always buy a 2001 valve cover since it will have the baffle.

For a dual inlet catch can, 034 sells one but it is not baffled and you can also find some on summit racing. If your looking to run a race battery in the stock spot I am having a catch can that will bolt into the stock battery spot that will also house a race battery. It will be baffled with 2 filters and 2 -10 inlets. Once its done I will post up pics. Nice part is that it will sit higher then the engine which is where it really needs to be.

It will look like this but instead of the whole thing being a catch can, just a L section will be catch can while the other spot will hold the race battery. The -10 fittings will be on the left side with the 2 filters on top. I will offer these cans to people that want them.

I also plan on trying this can with vented lines to the down pipe with 1 way valves instead of filters.

Those are the catch cans I bought - 2 of the OCC Stage 3 cans, but I had AN fittings welded to them. I am planning to run them in a stock-like configuration.

I haven't got them installed yet though, still trying to get my turbo setup finished, just no time to work on my car lately

so your just going to use a dual inlet can with one inlet from the crankcase vent and one to the valve on the TIP?
