    installing new ECU?!? @#$*&(@*#&$!!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ok folks, I'm trying to swap out my ECU with an APR I picked up quite a while back.

I have looked thru the forums, APRs DIY article, and this http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng4.shtml .

But, how the @WR&*@(#*$&(*@#$*&YFUI(*&*(@# do you remove that last bolt in the back!? I don't want to have to take the whole cowel apart, is there an easier way? I have a '99.5, and while the outline for that "pop-out" is there, mine does not pop out!

I can't believe how they designed this car!!!

Anyone have any tips or insight?! Do I need a mini rachet that is 1/4" thick and a socket that is just as small!?

    Re: installing new ECU?!? @#$*&(@*#&$!!!!

    From the article:

You can remove 4 of the 5 bolts fairly easily at this point with an 8mm socket. The fifth & last screw is hidden by the aforementioned black wiper fairing. If you don't have the access port plug, you will have to get at it from outside the hood. I dug my fingers in between the fairing and the windshield glass to see the 5th screw. Using a long extension, I loosened the screw several turns, then finished the job by relaxing the fairing, then reaching back under the hood, over the ECU box, and pulling the screw out. You do not want to drop this screw, as it would be a devil of a time getting it back.

It's not that hard, you don't even have to take the cowl off completely.

It will come out with a bit of a squeeze and an 8mm spanner, or 1/4 in dr 8mm socket. It took you longer to post on here than it would to remove, lol j/k

    Re: installing new ECU?!? @#$*&(@*#&$!!!!

wow. it really is not that hard to remove the windshield wipers which is what i do. 10mm nuts, and two phillips screws.

take your time with mods. ^^^ what modified said, "do it right or don't do it at all". yeah it's just a screw, but in the future...
