Question PSi Test pipe long term reports?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ok, so I have been running with my TP since the original group buy... maybe a year ago... cant remember... Mine is doing great, or so I think... The thing is that for the last month I have been hearing a strange noice coming from that area when boosting. Its like a leak, but I took the car to a muffler shop and they said they could not find any leaks... Turbo is boosting ok, so i dont think i could have a busted turbo. Maybe a bad gasket?

Wanted to know whats been your experience with the PSi TP, or any TP... What could be my strange noice? I mean, when driving with some music (any volume, even very low) I wont hear it, but when driving with the stereo off to simply hear my car, the sound will make me think I'm driving an old car.

yeah, i never really trust shops to take of things....

get some soapy water and see if anything is leaking at idle too, sometimes you can't hear it.

Re: PSi Test pipe long term reports?

i did not install it myself, so i dont know if thread lock was used, probably not :( I know some minor grinding was needed in order for all three bolts could fit properly...

soapy water? yeah that will last about as long as you! they heat up quick!

any brand test pipe cant be that much diffferent, its a pipe with two threaded holes welded onto it, its not rocket science

Re: PSi Test pipe long term reports?

OP, are you hearing a "psh, psh, psh" sound? (Lol, thats the best I can describe it...)

Anyways, if you can hear the sound of escaping air (hissing sound perhaps) then what you are having is the exhaust gas seeping past the gaskets.

Since, you say, it is from the test pipe, a leak after the turbo (POST-turbo) will NOT affect performance in anyway, so technically there would be no need to fix it.

But obviously the sound does get annoying, that is why it should be fixed

haha yes, i think psh, psh, psh is the way i would describe it lol. probably since the gasket had a inner diameter smaller than the TP it could be that... but why didn't it do it before? hehe i'll have to check for something loose anyways.

yes, my CEL is on, but its because of not having a catalyst converter. you should tighten everything up real good and reset you computer to turn off your CEL, or wait till you can install the TP and get used to having a CEL hehe

i meant to do it one morning when he first starts it up while it's still relatively cold -- obviously it would instantly evaporate if he did it on a hot engine. lol
