Fixing LCD screen scratches on Navi

Hey guys, I recently joined the Audi family by picking up a 2006 3.2 A4 with navi, BT and xenons. Car drives great and I absolutely love it so far. The only blemish is that the LCD is a bit "scratched" up. I don't know what the previous owner did, the only way i can describe it is that it looks like a bad wipe job on the screen where it looks like there are streaks everywhere, only that they're permanent! I thought they were scratches but the screen feels completely smooth to the touch. Its almost as if someone used some type of cleaner that scratched or "burned" away the top layer of the screen. When the screen is on you can't tell its been scratched. But when its off it looks pretty bad. I will try to post some pics tonight but in the mean time do you guys have any solutions to this problem? Thanks.

Maybe there is a protective layer on the screen?

I haven't really heard of much to fix that, I'm sure there is a way.

Search navplus.us - I remember seeing some sort of plastic polish being recommended for the RNS-E.

Thanks, I will try navplus. I just went out to check the screen and doesn't seem like there is a protective layer on there. It almost seems as if it was scratched from the inside!

Re: Fixing LCD screen scratches on Navi

Okay i think i finally got to the bottom of this after researching some more over at navplus. Basically there is an anti-glare coating on most LCD screens. If you use the wrong type of cleaner, you can permanently scratch up or remove that layer! I think thats what the previous owner did in my case. When the screen is on you can't even tell there are any scratches or that the anti-glare coating is missing, its just that when the car is off you can see streak marks as if someone did a bad job wiping the screen. So for those of you with the Nav screen beware what you use!!!

Some solution that other people have come up with is to completely remove the rest of the anti-glare coating with weisman kitchen top cleaner. That will get rid of the streaky look but cannot guarantee that you will be able to see your screen in the sun. At least for me, most of the antil glare has been removed from the screen and i have no problems seeing in the sun. I'll see how much it bothers me in the coming weeks since I just got the car.
