    Windshield whiper blades upgrade (swap?)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was just wondering if it was possible to:

put on b7 windshield wiper blades (entire arm) on and replace the current blades on my 01 A4? I have seen this done before with a jetta (had entier new arm) and i really like the look as well as how great the wipers actually work. So is this possible to do this swap? would it be direct replacement?

    Thanks

Here is the whipers im talking about:
Here is the actual blade, and no its not rainx blade:

Re: Windshield whiper blades upgrade (swap?)

You can do the swap but I wouldn't recommend it. If you've got the fancy arms and trash a blade you can't run into a local store and grab a new one. You also don't get to take advantage of the great selection of universal fit wipers and will get stuck with overpriced dealership wipers.

I've run the Valeo Ultimates for years. They are the originals of that design. There are several versions out there and most improve on the original design which can fail when the end caps pop off. I think the RainX is the one that has the full wraparound cover which keeps them together. There is a thread on it.

Just go with the Bosch Icon wiper blades, they are the new style blades but fit on the B5 wiper arms.

FYI - 21/21 are the stock sizes but 22/24 fit just fine.

Re: Windshield whiper blades upgrade (swap?)

I have the Bosch Icon's on my car, no better wiper out there IMO. My friend has had his for over 2 years through harsh winters/summers and they still work like the day he bought them.

Re: Windshield whiper blades upgrade (swap?)

Just wanted to update this. 422A and 422B also fit. VERY SNUGGLY

The driver's side fits perfectly and the passenger side fits but while at rest it touches the windshield trim. For $46 these wipers better clean and polish my windshield.

Yeah I know that but I couldn't wait. My rubber blade on the passenger side ripped off and I was wiping water with metal. Not cool. So I needed blades ASAP.

Re: Windshield whiper blades upgrade (swap?)

I've had my Valeo Ultimates two years now with no change in their performance. Excellent wiper... I think Tire Rack has them with a buy one and get one free at around $19 plus shipping.

I picked up a set of new B5.5 Passat arms with OEM wipers (Aero Blade). They're awesom. Did I mention they look dope.

Re: Windshield whiper blades upgrade (swap?)

Did you guys have to order yours online or do they have them in auto parts stores? Just wondering if theyll have the right bosch icon blades in stock and if those will be the right ones for my car or if I need to order them... Is the do the A and B stand for driver's and passenger side or can I just use two As or two Bs? thanks
    Jeff

Re: Windshield whiper blades upgrade (swap?)

I have done a back to back with the Bosch and Valeo... While I am usually a Bosch whore when it comes to parts, I have to say Valeo is far superior... The Bosch's started to streak and didn't perform as well after 6 months... The Valeo is still wiping clean! I am testing this on two cars... My A4 and my Magnum... Drivers side has Valeo and passenger side Bosch... Both Bosch are gone and the Valeos are still kicking...

Not to mention, I did a few high speed test runs... The Bosch's started to lift from the windshield at about 85 MPH while the Valeo stays planted at even 155 MPH!!
