cigar lighters, always on?

are all a6s like this, i've got my gps plugged in but it's always on. It's pretty annoying. Is my car weird? how can i change it to going on/off with the ignition?

the lighters themselves only turn on when you press them in all the way

when you 'plug' something in, it will always be on.

yeah mine are the opposite, they just don't work at all, and I have now idea how to fix them although it might just be a fuse..

Yeah , my radar and phone are always on when car is off, i kinda like it, but im sure theres a way to turn it off.

i don't want to pull the plug every time i park, that's just f-in annoying. why is it designed like this?

oh it stays on after you take out the keys? shitty... mine doesn't do that. wonder if its an issue on 00+

If you are not afraid of wiring, you could always switch the cigarette plug power to a switched power. Personally, I take my radar detector plug and wire it in directly to switched power, usually the radio power, and then hide the wire so it comes out the head liner at the detector. I then switch the radio to have power all the time.
