Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i keep geting 20mpg i drive mostly highway 70-80% most of the time i drive at night to my gf 70-85mph.it seems low to me. I dont have trip computer so i calculated this number based on gas receits. I have an 06 a4 tip 2.0t

my friend has a jetta 2.0t tip 06 with 70,000 miles on it (ya he drives a lot) and he constently gets over 30 on a highway and mixed with city 27.I know that i have quattro but that much of a difrance in mpg?

i spoke to the dealer i he said that i could do some injector tratment at a dealer for 200. Any idea how to do it by myself?

    thanks in advance

Either you drive really fast (don't drive at WOT ever, and use cruise control when you can)
or your tires are horribly under inflated (keep them at about 32-34psi probably)
or your calculations are off. I think we have an 18.5gal tank, but I'd keep track of how much you buy if you're using estimated fractions of a tank instead
    Ignorance is bliss.

I have to say that seems hard to believe.

    OP,

Are you making the calculations yourself or are you using the trip computer. Try doing it yourself, maybe it is a problem with you $40k calculator. If not I would say you have something wrong. I do 95% city driving and get about 19-22 and when on the highway, and I drive fast, I get 28-32,

While I am not the OP I have to say the same thing.

My last fill up was for 14.5 gallons which I had driven 287 miles for a grand total of 19.7 mpg. Idrive REALLY mellow, don't beat on my baby at all and my tire pressure is perfect.

I think that the car isn't pregrammed right and if I were to chip things would be alot better!

nice, so if i slowed down from my astronomical 80 mph speed average (speed limit is 70 here) to 60, my peepee should grow larger, right? thanks for the enlightenment

Re: is evrything ok with my car?

I'm currently getting about 23-24 mpg with about 1800 miles on the car. I drive it rather conservatively, because gas is $4.09/gal. I accelerate gradually and do my best to stay out of boost, except for the once in awhile quick freeway entrance.

Re: is evrything ok with my car?

i get 17-19 mpg and i drive city mostly. i'd say about 25% of the time im WOT and the rest i drive very conservatively. I think something's wrong with my car. most miles i've ever gotten with a full tank to empty was 300 miles flat.

Don't buy a $200 fuel injector solution from the dealer.
Try driving with cruise control in 3k rpms for an entire tank, and see what type of mileage you get. My guess is that you don't have a steady foot.

Re: is evrything ok with my car?

I think when you estimate that you're doing 70-80% highway driving, you're not considering that it's not always a direct calculation on miles. If you do 30 minutes of city driving that amounts to 5 miles and 30 minutes of highway driving that amounts to 25 miles, you've still effectively reduced your MPG by more than you realize cause you're beating on the gas pedal going from dead stop to go for 30 minutes time on local roads, so you can't assume that just cause your highway miles are much greater than city miles that those city miles are a 1:1 ratio on time. Imagine you drove 100% on the highway and then when you got to your destination, you sat there and revved your engine for 15 minutes straight. You'd kill your MPG. In conclusion... I think your city driving is causing your low MPG.

Re: is evrything ok with my car?

There have been a lot people complaining about bad gas mileage but I believe that either people are miscalculating or are refusing to believe that its their own driving. Even if you're driving highway if your pressing your pedal in and out speeding up and slowing down from 70-85 mph then you're definitely wasting gas. If you go on a long trip, that's when you're truly gonna get the best gas mileage. I can go a little over 500 miles to the tank by driving between 80-85 mph on a really long drive. But any kind of other driving will get me only about 350-400 miles on a tank. Our cars are heavy and any kind of other weight we've added to it whether its passengers, heavier rims, stereo system or yourself weighing 285 lbs is gonna effect it also. I'm sure that some people are experiencing something "wrong" but not as many as are complaining about it.

And I would not pay $200 for any kind of fuel injector treatment.

    Marcin,

I have a similar problem with my B7. I used to get around 24mpg city with easy driving and now it has dropped to around 20mpg. The 1st and 2nd gears seem less smooth. I was doing some reading around here and multiple people have said that this situation is related to a bad PCV. You should also see some oil residue around the oil cap if you ideed have abd PCV. Do some search on audizine for DV PCV and you'll get a lot of info.

I'll be taking mine do the dealer soon.

i got the service done... not worth the money... i did feel better throttle response but that i assume had more to do with my PCV valve failure I had fixed at the same time. I recommend you just get the high octane stuff and add it to your tank or get seafoam... gas mileage doesn't improve with this either. however, this is my experience... you experience could be different... that's why this is a forum.

I usually hate these MPG threads but I had to reply to your questions and had to say I get 20mpg on a Quattro Tip with Shell 93 before and after the fuel injection service.

ok so i did't do anything to my car. I still average 21 or 22. So it made mi figure maybe i just have a heavy foot so i took my car on a 400mile trip camping with ac running low all the time. trunk and back seat full of food and camping supplies + 2 people in the car including me and guess what i averaged 30mpg!!!

in conclusion it looks like i have a heavy foot:)
