About a week or so ago, I started to noticed that at slow speed when turning like into my parking space in and out (backward) and also stationary, there is a popping/clicking/clunking noise from up front. Eh… so I’m like WTF and drove it more and didn’t go away. Had it check at a local shop, for me it was not CV boot, loose bolts, upper strut bearings, front sway bar end links, subframe bolts, mount, so basically all the stuff people looked at in the whole area. This type of clicking noise problems has been well discussed on many forums and boards and not just in US, but globally on all MKV chassis cars – Golf, Jetta, A3 and even TT. Range from bone stock like 500 miles to modded cars. [O_O]

If print friendly is well over 90+ pages and counting…

Some had it after putting suspension on – for them it was upper sturt bearing, others with the noise the problems were either loose bolts (subframe, sway bar end links, etc etc) and or steering rack. In my case, local shop was able to pin point the noise coming from the steering rack and indeed after taking it to the stealership they said I need a new steering rack. My car has only about like 12K miles, had suspension upgrade since like 3K miles install by local shop with skilled and knowledgeable tech that worked at Audi, Mercedes, Porsche etc before.

In addition, since Oct 2007 all of a sudden I feel and can see my steering wheel is off center to the left like 10 degree… I am thinking it might be initial warnings that my steering rack is failing. I even had local shop to align it 2x for me but still was not straight. This problem has also been talked about on the link above and many people had the exact same problem. Told an Audi tech about it that when on the ride along and he said “is so hard to get it center” BULLSHIT

So I have a new steering rack coming and I thank god it is covered.
