do the dealerships also put a new turbo on, since oil runs to the turbo also?

Re: When replacing an engine due to sludge...

They replaced my turbo as well as the engine under the sludge warranty. Some dealers also replace the water pump and timing belt at the same time as well, other won't. You might be able to cut a deal on it. My dealer wasn't so nice about it, they wanted to change full price for the belt/pump change when they were already going to get paid by audi to take the old pump and belt and tensioner and everything else off the old engine and put it on the new one. I was willing to pay for the parts (but not the labor they were already getting paid for) and they didn't see eye to eye with me on that. But if you're close to the milage/time for the service try to negotiate that in as well. More than likely they will bring it up to you.

My car has 13k on the engine/tubes/turbo.

62k on tranmission, air conditioning, chasis.. etc.

    It runs smooth as hell.

Not that I think you were asking me, but for statistical purposes mine was replaced Feb 2007 at 59K miles (way too early to have sludge in my opinion) oh and my tranny is slipping at 85k now... (way to early for that too...)

My 2003 Avant was at 96,000 km when I had to have this done and they changed the turbo as well. In fact the dealership gave me the option of replacing my clutch and any goodies in the surrounding area for just the cost of the parts at a discount and covered the labour since they were in there already.

If they haven't offered it...ask and negotiate.

Re: When replacing an engine due to sludge...

they changed my turbo when i had mine replaced. the engine they received they said had a new timing belt on it, so they "didn't offer to do a new one". If you're up in mileage, I'd think about a new clutch at the same time.

Re: When replacing an engine due to sludge...

Well I have 110k on my car but the engine was replaced at 55k with a brand new block and head with 0 miles, but the service writer never mentioned anything about the turbo and I was just wondering before I decided to chip my car. btw the engine was replaced by a local dealer but it was under the previous owner.

Why would you pay to have a new timing belt put on a new engine? They'd have to put a belt on it anyways.

You have to supply proof of proper maintenance. Proof you keep the oil changed on time and use the correct oil.
