    Re: Test Pipe DIY?

omg..... we just did this on sunday. huge pain in the ass. well i attempted it a week earlier. then my airbox was being a hoe. after we figured that out we tried it again and it almost became a fail. we were able to get the front of the cat and the o2 sensors off fine. but then we couldnt reach the back of the cat(we didnt have the best tools). so we decided to try and pull out the whole downpipe. but the bracket for the spring connector thing was stuck so we sawd that off. and like an hour later and my friend fracturing his finger we got it out...

just attempt early in the morning.

o and im pretty sure my flex pipe is fucked up now too..

    Re: Test Pipe DIY?

what we ended up doing was taking a 9/16 craftsman wrench, taking a grinder to it and cut it in half so we could get a wrench on the backside of it. the first time we did it we were only replacing the gasket at the back of the cat... took us like 3 hours to get the bolts off. but the second time when we put the test pipe on, we reused that "cut in half" wrench. made the job soooooo much easier. also makes it easier to take off the small shield by the axleshaft w/ the hex bolts. makes for much more room w/ u'r hands. o yeah, buy a friend a case of beer so he'll let you use his lift!! when you put it all back together, you will have dropped u'r whole catback to do the test pipe, install the testpipe on u'r catback before you get it bolted onto the turbo. makes it easier to tighten the testpipe to u'r catback when it's sitting on the ground rather than over u'r head in a confined space. once you get that tightened down, then raise it all at the same time.. tighten the test pipe-to-turbo nuts about 2-3 turns w/ u'r fingers, bolt u'r exhaust back to the bottom of the car, then do the rest from the engine bay... oh, but make sure u do u'r second o2 sensor before u put the car back down, otherwise, u'll have to get back underneith it... just speaking from experience.....

wanna hear something kewl!!? before u get u'r exhaust bolted back on, start the car and listen to the nice sound of the turbo... of course, u'r going to get a check engine light and you'll have to wait for the turbo to cool before you can continue, but it's neat anyways and anyone w/ a scanner can shut off u'r cel (except autozone, pricks)
