hypotheticaly, would this motor swap work? (eurotuner mag)

Would it be possible for a B6 03 RS6 motor (4.5L v8 bi-turbo) to fit in a B6 A4? I wasn't even that familiar with the motor until I was surfing for 2.7tt motors on the internet and came across this motor. Apparently it runs 450bhp stock, not sure what it's at the wheels. I can't even imagine what you could do with massive garret turbo's and all the other go fast mods on that car.

Also, if anyone reads Eurotuner, then you are familiar with the upcoming top shop challenge. Basically, the parent company of the magazine is holding a competition between all it's sister publications eurotuner is the only one I'm familiar with. All the rest are asian import tuner mags. Anyway, the competiton is who can build the best motor. The Euros picked a Audi 80 inline 5, and apparently the shop 034 motorsport, had pushed that well over 800whp. So, why would they pick that motor over the rs6 v8?

I know this thread is kind of all over the place, just trying to have some good conversation.

    Cheers!

The RS6 is built on the C platform. And having seen one with the front bumper off, I am going to say no, you won't be able to squeeze that into a B6 without major modification. It barely fits in the C chassis.

Yeah, but doesn't the 4.2L block fit in the B6 s4? I figured it was the same chassis as the B6 a4?

i'm fairly sure that the 4.2TT is NOT just a 4.2 with different manifolds and turbos... totally different engine (from what i can tell from looking at the two)

    i've seen 4 rs6's in person now... and more s4's and a6 4.2's than i can count

Seeing as Mike Hood makes well over 800 horesepower with a tiny 2.0L motor in his B5 A4...

    Why bother?

I think Greg's point, and what a lot of folks don't think about is this: If you are considering an engine swap... it's better to take a proven, bulletproof engine and squeeze lots power out of it, than it is to take a high output, twitchy motor and try to push it even further.

You already have the former in the car right now.

If I recall from the article they could source the engine from any Euro, then made some joke about how all the Enzo owners they contacted laughed at them. My guess is that 034 picked the I-5 cuz they're familiar with it and know how to make big power with it. Since they had to supply the motor themselves maybe it was a financial issue as well.

There was also some calculation in the competition of power vs displacement. I'm guessing that they thought they could get more power percentage wise from the motor that they chose vs a bigger one.

Yeah, these are all good points. Thanks guys. I wonder what a 2.7tt would feel like in the a4 frame?
