    B7 A4 Bike Rack Ideas

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Im a bike enthusiast and am out of the trails quite often during the summer and was wondering if there are any SLEEK bike racks out there? I was looking at a hitch option but didnt want to spoil the look of the rear S-line bumper :) and as for the roof rack not sure if its removable or permanent.

So if anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.

Something like this would be nice :)

    Thanks

Re: B7 A4 Bike Rack Ideas

I'm a roadie and I just take the front wheel and put it in the trunk. But if this is available then I wouldn't mind getting one of these? Is this available domestically?

the bike rack is removable on the A4. if you open all your doors you will see little white arrows and thats where you attach it if you get it. then you can take it off too whenever you want.

OEM racks take like 5-8 minutes to remove, but are a bit more chunkier than aftermarket racks.

Re: B7 A4 Bike Rack Ideas

It depends what you're looking for... If it's only biking, I would suggest the possibility of looking into just one that straps to the trunk. You can always find them on sale, and they work perfectly, hell I have one I'll sell to you for 45$ + shipping... Those bike racks for the top of the car get pricey... The base bars costs between 160 - 190 if not more, and then you need to go get the actually bike holders which again range from something like 85 - 130$.... If you're doing more then just biking, maybe that would be more beneficial as you can get different hooks.... but save yourself some money and get a rear holder

i bought the Yakima roof rack with the Sprocket Rocket racks.

Was easy to install and works like a charm, i have 3 bikes on top easily, u can fit 4.

lines up with OEM rack marks on the inside of the car, open ur door and u can see the lines on the lining.

Meh, I have had a trunk one for some time now, no dings or dents, or scratches. You need to treat it carefully, put a rubber bootie on the pedals, etc.... I would love a roof rack myself, but I can't find it in me to dish out the bucks for something

I have a Yakima with Copperhead mounts. I put the front wheel(s) in the trunk. I also have the ski attachments. I have used the same rack on all three Audis (B5, B6, B7--just needed to change the clips). It installs in under 10 minutes and comes off even faster, the door guides are perfect. Worth every penny.

What kind do you have? I was debating on getting one due to concerns of putting scratches on my car....from the bike swaying. Can you get those pedal booties at any bike shop?

Re: B7 A4 Bike Rack Ideas

I've posted a few times regarding racks b/c I've dealt with yakima and thule for years and have used every foot, tray, bar in the book for these two companies. My personal prefrence is roof mount. If you have a sedan and go that route then you MUST wax regularly under the foot pads b/c they will leave marks after time

I'm not a huge fan of the trunk mount just b/c if I'm rear ended then you lose a bike and the bike inturn become a "damage multiplier" for the car, as in it creates more damage. I'd rather be out a bumper then a bumper and a bike. My buddy uses a trunk mount and has been fine though.......just preference.

Thanks! I already have the base rack for my surfboards, so I guess I just need the attachment..

what's your preference as to fork vs. upright mount? yakima or thule?

Re: B7 A4 Bike Rack Ideas

I've always ran the fork mount b/c I like the low center of gravity. Thats not to say the uprights are bad, they have come a long way and are soild. The fork mounts just seem that much more secure though and the mounting point is closer to the cross bar making it more stable. I also think they look cooler...LOL.

I know I may get flamed for saying this but I've ran from NY to VT many times and have broke 100mph with no issues, this has been done on my S4 (sedan), Land Cruiser and B7 Avant. I don't condone it but its pretty solid. I have confidence enough to throw my Turner and Seven up there while doing it.....I know, my flame suit is on.

The clear bar idea is a good one and if I had a sedan thats what I would do.

Oh and I have Thule currently (but have had both)and thats only b/c the rep hooked it for me. I feel that both Thule and Yakima are terrific products, very well thought out, user friendly and solid.

Yeh, I'm not that avid a biker to justify spending too much on a rack. I just got a simple trunk rack. I'll just have to be sure to be careful so I can avoid possible scratches and dents.

Roof racks are always a good look and give you the option to carry various other types of gear like skis/snowboards or a roof box. Can't do that with a trunk rack.

True, but I have my Montero and it's rack, if I need to haul skii's or larger items. I just need something to drive me a few miles away from the city for my rides.

Can anyone tell me if any Thule or Yakima bike mounts can be rigged to fit the Audi Factory Load Bars for the A4 sedan? I bought the bars from Audi, but can't sem to figure out how in the world to attach any of the aftermarket (Thule/Yakima) accessories...

Also, does anyone have an air deflector / fairing on the factory crossbars??

Yes. Yakima sells a universal bike mount. I have it on the factory load bars. Cost about $115 at REI.

Thule also make a adapt9x kit which will incorporate the Thule attachments with factory audi base carrier bars.
