How hard is it to swap out the DVD changer for the Ipod adapter (and should I bother?

    Hi,

I am in the midst of pricing out my A4. One dealer has the colors & options but the Navigation has the Cd changer & I wanted the Ipod adapter. Can I swap it out at some point?

Does the CD changer play MP3's?

He said the Ipod setup on the steering wheel could only do playlists & that it wasnt that good (of course thats what he has to sell).

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Rich

He's telling the truth. The iPod adapter that Audi offers is the most worthless POS I have ever seen~! I have it and have never used it passed day 1, it's garbage! Get the Nav, load a bunch of mp3's on a SD card and call it good....

I agree... ipod adapter sucks balls. You can get your own from Dension/Dice and I think you can retro with your changer... you problem want to go to the electrical section and ask this question... better place to get your question answered is here: http://www.navplus.us/forums/

Whats so bad about it? Does it not offer controls? Is it more like an aux plug?

Does the CD changer play MP3s?

    Do the SDcard mp3's display?

I personally have a non-navi Symphony head unit, and have an adaptor set up that gives me a 3.5 mm headphone cable w/ male end coming out of the center console that can plug in to the headphone port of any portable player. My particular adaptor also provides power to the player I actually use (a Sirius Stiletto), and it all integrates with the stock unit. It is keyed to the "CD" button, which you simply press twice to toggle over to the external player. It's perfect!

PM me if you want details on how you can potentially get your own adaptor; i bet you could get one that provides both direct audio feed as well as power for the iPod so it can stay charged as well.

After doing research myself, I came to the conclusion that screw the cd changer as it does not play mp3's, and i'm never changing the cd's... The same thing will happen with the SD cards, and you can only have 8 gig (4 gig x2).

I just bought off ebay the DICE ipod adapter for our cars, which includes the factory integration (only playlists, but there's always a way around that), and it also has a AUX input for any other thing you want which has a headphone jack. I suggest not paying the ridiculous price for the audi one as it is a piece, however get one for a few bucks cheaper on the bay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...TODAY.m238.lVI
