I for one love them, and can't wait to get another Fox, I miss my SSP Notchback every day. I don't know how much you know about them, but mine was particularly rare, not only was it an Ex-CHP, but it was also a stripper coupe. The damn thing weighed just under 2800lbs IIRC.
It had a 306 with GT-40 heads(real GT-40, not the P's) with a mild street port and smoothed combustion chambers, had them machined for 7/16" studs and used TFS 1.7r roller rockers with an FRPP E-Cam(total lift was something like .528) Also had a ported GT-40 intake(the tubular ones) Had mad torque down low, I accidentally started off in 3rd gear once, thought I was in 1st, and it chugged right along and got up to speed with out a problem.
Had a full Maximum Motorsports suspension setup, the only thing I didn't have was there K-Member. Had some sweet ass custom valved Bilsteins(also from MM) with FRPP C Springs, it handled like a go-cart. It had an 8.8 rear with Moser 31 spline axels, 3.55 gears with an Auburn Differential(LOVED that diff) I was able to hit 160mph once, happened while I was racing another mustang as a matter of fact. I intended to take it to Willow Springs and beat on it, but I worked so damn much back then, I never got to enjoy it like I really wanted to. Ended up parting out the motor(only thing I haven't sold still is the short block) and sold the rest off as a rolling chassis, it now has an 03 Cobra motor w/ a Whipple, and should run low 9's no sweat.
EDIT: I hope your friend isn't running a stock block with that much power, that thing is just waiting to split in half if he is...
