    More overheating issues...

So a few weeks back I posted about a fluctuating temp gauge, well finally a few days ago the car just straight up overheated, my warning light on the head up came on, and the gauge was rapidly rising. So I ended up replacing the thermostat that day, and that seemed to fix it. However, I noticed while driving today that the temp gauge will begin to rise at an idle, and as soon as I start moving again it goes up. I then popped the hood while the car was idling, it began to overheat, and the fans did not kick in. So this brings me to my question, how are the fans controlled on these cars, are they a viscous set-up, electric, or are they controlled by that temp sensor?? Basically what do I need to do to get my fans to work?

    Thanks
    RIP B6 A4

Just a guess. Sensor for the fans or temp sensor.

    Re: More overheating issues...

this is unbelievable, so now it idles, and 90% of the time drives fine with the temp gauge in the middle, but after driving for long periods of time the gauge will still move up one notch, then back down. I can't fathom why this is, my A4's temp gauge never moved. Now its more of a bother to my sanity then anything else, i mean the car had an entire new engine dropped in less than 20k miles ago, and if the waterpump was going bad I think I would have more frequent, and drastic temp problems.

It could be a Bad thermastat. When you intalled the new one did you make sure it was in the correct position? Also when you put the new temp sensor did you install it the same way it came out?

    Re: More overheating issues...

Check the fan control module. Put the AC in auto, at lowest setting. Open hood and verify fans run.

Have you replaced the WP? Should've been done w/ the TB (and metal, not a plastic impeller).

After a hard run, my modded 180 (MTM, 220+HP) runs up a bit. After a short idle, it settles out. I Live in Atlanta, and the heat is murder.
