    B6 OEM Tire Pressure 235/17/45 Z

What do people run their 17's at?

Since bought an accurate tire pressure gauge i set them at 33psi front and back. Which was very good as it got rid of a vibration from the rear which i have been suffering at, at highway speeds.

However, I figured this was a little low so i put them up to 34psi and this caused a vibration to come back.

I live in Charleston SC so its going to get hot pretty quick here. So i'm trying to see what i should set them at for the hot weather. I do a lot of city driving for work but i often drive to my inlaws which is 3hrs away.

I want whats going to be best for comfort and gas milage!

Its really preference. I Like mine closer to 40, I try and keep them around 38 because I have 19's with a 35 series tire. Personally with 17's and a 45 series tire I wouldnt go under 35.... But thats just me. just try and keep it between 32-42

    Re: B6 OEM Tire Pressure 235/17/45 Z

There is a sticker on the inside of the (passenger?) door that lists "correct" pressure for our cars. On my avant it lists 36 with 1-2 passengers and 38 for 4 passengers

This is a pretty good starting point and can be adjusted from there depending on preference. I tend to get better tire wear at the higher rating, but my alignment was off, so it may be different now...

Higher pressure should yield better mileage, but can wear the middle part of the tread quicker if the pressure is too high. Lower pressure can wear the edges of the tread, but will give your tire more contact with the road and in certain conditions increase grip.

    Re: B6 OEM Tire Pressure 235/17/45 Z

    I appriciate everyones reply.

Just to clarify i have stock 17" B6 rims with the 02 sport package, with Nexens(?) on the front and Yokohama on the backs. Both are directional and Z rated.

On the door sills i think it says 30 front and back for 1-2 passengers. However, its a little hard to dicipher as its rated for Y tires. Plus 30 see very low to me. The tires sag. However, i'm worried that if put something like 34/35 in. The heat with cause them to be over inflated on long trips in the heat. My tires are rated 40psi max.

I have a sport and always keep them a few psi higher than what's specified in the manual. I think 38 or so. It's actually time to adjust again them now that Spring is here.

12/23/09 - My car has been phenomenal to me. Runs strong. Don't think I'm ever going to sell it. Rather throw $7k into it for a refresh than buy a new A4 that has no dipstick.

its inside the drivers door, look on the tires and see the max setting... its up to you, we cant tell you how much air to put in your tires, it depends how you like the car to ride!

Whats listed on the door is for Y rated tires not Z i want to know if the same is applicable.
I'm trying to base my decision on other peoples experience. I dont expect anybody to "tell" me what to put in my tires.

With some of the pot holes around Charleston I think you're running a good number.

I know my father had issues with tire PSI getting way to high in the summer, and he's in Mt. Pleasant. He got a rotation at Geralds (I think that's what it's called) and they put the PSI high, then after a few hours on the road POP! Right front went.

    Re: B6 OEM Tire Pressure 235/17/45 Z

Just to update i set the fronts to 34 and left the rears to 33, I'm usually the only person in the car and the of chance my wife. We rarely have people sat in the back.

    BIGO i hear you there!

Thats how i blew my rear right! I told the dealer to set the PSI to set the PSI for a fully loaded car as i was driving down the FL with the wife and another coupe as well as a full trunk for a wedding. On the Monday after i was driving alone to a client and my right blew.

The heat sucks! Charleston pot holes suck!

What does your father drive? I used to live in Mnt P but i'm now in James Island.

Are you sure the 40 psi is max inflation not max for tire beading? My Yokohamas max at 50psi. I have an 02 sport and an Audi performance shop recommends psi around 40. Since the lower sport suspension have a negative camber, our tires tend to have more inner wear. Keeping the psi around 40 will also help with this. My fronts are 40 and rears are at 38.
