available here is a set of washers which will turn your 2:1 center torsen differential in to a 4:1 center differential.

in case you are wondering about testing: i have been running this mod in my personal car for ~3500 miles.
i have done donuts on closed courses. been to the drag strip. and drive my car 120+ miles per day. 5, sometimes 6 days a week.

we are selling these washers for an introductory price of $155/shipped in the 48 states. international is available but will cost a few extra usd dollars.

we are also a stocking motul dealer. gear 300 oil is available for an additional cost. my gearbox took 2 liters to refill.

if you have any questions feel free to post or pm. or if you are interested in purchasing a set please pm or email [email protected]

    picture of 1 piece kit.
note: pins in this picture are 50mm long.
they will be shortened to 40mm before being mailed to you.

    gear300:

*note: ^ this stuff helped alleviate a lot of the vibration caused by the
install of both stern's power ring and rear diff bushings in my personal car.

I like the idea of a 4:1 center diff, but what kind of power are you putting down for those 3500 miles. X3 on the price for washers and pins.

last dyno was 327awhp @ 20psi. here is the dyno sheet.

the washers are sourced, along w/ the pins (from a different source). and the washers have to be machined to the correct specs.

if you think the price is unfair then do your own research, purchases, and get them machined yourself.

buying the above kit saves ppl that hassle.

I dont think you really need to be lippy about it.
Thats why I said I was ignorant about it which we probably all are for the most part but saying stuff that translates to "If you dont like my product, go find someone else" IMO isnt very cool because sooner or later, a guy will come along and come out with the same thing for 30 dollars or 50 dollars cheaper and everyone will remember the "If you dont like it go somewhere else"

So to officially beat this into the ground...Quattro will have the option to split the torque 20/80, but it will only go that far when that split is desirable?

    read this: clicky click

there's a lot of really good information in there, and hopefully it will dispel some of the incorrect statements people usually make regarding the center dif. you'll see once you read through (yes its long, but it is DEFINITELY worth it)

Not really. Since you mentioned the pins in the pictures were 50mm, I grabbed the calipers and got a rough idea of the size of the parts (all numbers are rounded, it was ~1.57:1 scale on my 21" LCD at 1600x1200).

    pins = 50mm long, 6mm dia
    washers = id 34mm, od 48mm, 4mm thick

Then I priced similar sized washers at retail parts houses, where the prices are already marked up from wholesale (McMaster and Grainger), and they averaged $9 for a box of 10 washers. And for the pins I looked at 6mm stainless stock, which was about $12 for 1m of 6mm dia, or enough for 25 pins.

You say they're machined, which is fine and dandy, but I know you can get OEM washers and pins in pretty much any size you want these days (http://www.alibaba.com/).

This works out to ~$4 worth of parts per kit, and even if you had gone with the highest grade hardware in an exotic alloy, you're still looking at no more than $8-$10 per kit just in hardware.

I know the measurements are probably a bit off, and I'm not trying to bust your balls, but really man, $155? That just seems wrong.

rates for dyno are done by the hour mostly. $81/hour is normal labor rate.

So what if the materials are cheap?
This guy has gone to the trouble of figuring out the correct tolerance for the washers, sourced the parts, had them machined, hopefully written and included some installation instructions, put everything together in a tidy package and wants to sell them.

Sure, the resulting parts are not cheap, but this guy has done the homework and his time/effort is worth something so this cost, in theory reflects that investment.

    p.s. I do not need/want $150 washers.

also there is a big question regarding backing his product. I am sure if something went wrong with a stasis diff, they would try to get the situation resolved. What happens if you trash your existing diff using these parts?

I'm not singing anyone's praises, but everyone seems eager to bash this guys work without consideration to the effort he put in. I just wanted to say that peoples time/effort IS worth something beyond cost of materials.

I even included in my post that I am dubious about what happens if/when your modified diff goes south.

Everyone whining about the price are basically folks who want this mod, but do not want to pay someone else for their effort because the finished product is a couple washers and few pins. Basically, they do not want to pay the guy that has done their homework for them.
I am not trying to pick on anyone, or be a jerk, but if you do not want to buy his product, Don't. If you have taken the time to figure out the correct thickness etc, go get your own washers ground.

I personally do not think it is worth the $, but it is more out of the question of long term testing and product "warranty"

Cool idea. Just needs some solid R&D.

    ^ thanks.

i test this in my personal car. 120+ miles per day. 5, sometimes 6 days a week. my job is 58 miles from where i live. i commute everyday. not including the running around town and things i do when im @ home.

there are also 2 other members of this forum that regularly post that have done this mod as well. one of them is a fellow b6'er.

let's make it happen then, PM me and we can get something setup for this summer if you're really interested. I'll get on NCeuros/NCdubs and talk to all the people that i know (other imports would be ok too right?) and im sure i could get together a crowd of 30 or more (really whatever you have room for)

sounds good to me, i think we need events like that happening in the area... BFI and apex tuning never organize anything lol.

not to mention, they don't have a dyno.
