I've searched and found a few threads on the sending unit being bad on the 1.8t cars.

I have a 3.0. Some days gauge works, some days doesn't. I'm assuming sender is the problem.

    Few things
    1. is this a common item on the 3.0 too?

    2. where is it located on the motor?

    3. is it the same part number to fix?

    Thanks

    Joe

ECT's go bad all the time. If you remove the intake pipe you can see it. Its down on the rear coolant pipe. You can reach back and get it. Should be a standard green sensor.
