    Question Spark Plug Recommendation

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was at the Audi dealer, they said to get the OEM plugs for my car as replacements. My 3.0 is generally stock, and I was wondering if any of you knew of some good plugs to use for replacements. I'm looking for something reliable with maybe some type of performance/better spark when I replace them. Should I get the OEM plugs? Should I get something else? Any word off hand for part numbers?

    Re: Spark Plug Recommendation

Get the NGK Iridium IX.. I used those when I changed out of my Stock ones and they sure do the job.. They last somwthing like 65k depending how you drive. Also they are said to give you a bit more power.

    Heres the specs:
Iridium IX Plug, 14mm Thread, 19mm (3/4") Reach, 5/8" (16mm) Hex Size, Gasket Seat, Resistor, Solid Terminal, ISO Length, Projected Tip, Fine Wire (0.6mm) Iridium Center Electrode, Tapered Cut Ground Electrode, .044" (1.1mm) Gap

    Re: Spark Plug Recommendation

if you are anal, change them every 10K. if not, they last at least 50K. but i would change mine every 25-30K just to keep with the maintenance.

    Re: Spark Plug Recommendation

I just bought some IK20s off ebay, should be here very soon. Anyway, my car is supercharged so I'll post up on how they work on that application. I may play with the gapping a little too, and bring it down to 0.040 or 0.038"

    Re: Spark Plug Recommendation

I heard that you shouldn't change the gap in iridium plugs as it will mess with how it works... The sight on Ebay says not to use a gap tool to make any changes to the plug????? I dunno tho... I'll also keep you all posted on the change with the new plugs. Also, Ill, let me know the difference with the gapping experiment...

    Re: Spark Plug Recommendation

I think they say that because the tips are delicate and easy to break off when gapping. It shouldn't affect operation of the plug at all...

    Re: Spark Plug Recommendation

Just installed my Denso IK20's... Now its like i'm driving a different car. What a difference. I'd recommend these to anyone. they are a little pricey, but IMO its def worth it. I noticed an increase in my throttle response, and power, not to mention I have much better fuel economy... A++ on the Denso's...

    Re: Spark Plug Recommendation

This is a thread everyone should read on spark plugs. Good write-up.
    http://www.audigeeks.com/forums/index.php?topic=56.0

I have used and tested (logged) a variety of plugs from F5DPOR, 7E's, 3 prong bosch, IK22's, oem, etc. The best I've found are the NGK BKRE8EIX. The 7EIX are good but the 8's being one temp range colder are better for my application with the power I'm running.

    Re: Spark Plug Recommendation

I've been told by two different shops now that the stock plugs are the ones to stick with, even in 500hp B5 S4's he said the stock plugs "just work better". I ran the BK7RE's for a while and honestly I don't notice a difference now that I'm back to the oem plugs. BTW copper should always be better than iridium for boosted cars as long a you don't mind changin them every 6-10k miles. The Bosch plugs in the two step colder section sound interesting, anyone know if they make those in 1-step colder?
