Installed HID conversion kit and getting a weird error message/warning!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I installed my H7 5000K HID kit w/battery relay harness and now everytime I start the car I get a warning light that states: "right headlight dipped" and "left headlight dipped"...the company I bought it from sells a bulb out warning harness for cars like ours that monitor EVERYTHING, lol. I'm not sure they will fix the problem or if anyone else has had this happen to them?

    thanks for the help!

Install relays to draw true 12volt juice directly from the battery.

Re: Installed HID conversion kit and getting a weird error message/warning!

I already have the battery relay harness which draws power directly from the battery...I see that HIDextreme.com sells 2 other harnesses. One of them is for the "bulb out" warning message that some cars get(I don't have this warning message). The other relay is for other various error messages which might be the one for me? I emailed them to see what they recommend.

"headlight dipped" message is the message i get when one of my headlights goes out temporarily. i have to turn off headlights then turn on to light both again. i think it is similar to the blub out warning and its your best shot since i doubt youll find a harness specifically for "dipping"

no I didn't...how do I go about doing this?

The message now only appears when I turn on the headlights...It seems to be an intermittent message?

Find someone that has a vag-com and have them recode your car for bi-xenon and disable DRLs...you won't have high beams anymore but the xenons will work.

Take a look at the FAQ section to get the proper codes.

Just put a capacitor from radioshack, that will solve the problem. I used to get that warning along with flickering bulbs...now after that capacitor, no warninig everythings perfect.

i think it's due to the coding as well, just get a friend with a vag cable to do it OR buy the $10 dollar one from ebay OR bring it into a dealer and get it done, they should do it for free or at most charge 1/2hr labour

I highly doubt it's the coding as all it is, is an aftermarket HID conversion kit. If he did the actual swap, then yes.... coding would be necessary.

The problem is, at least I believe is the car is always sending charges to make sure the lights are working, and not out. Now that you have a different thing hooked up into there, that's why the lights will either flicker or go out... You need a capacitor, but that might end up becoming a pain. See if they make a special harness for the car to bypass the lights-out warning....

Yikes! Are you really telling the OP to go haphazardly slap in capacitors and/or relays without really knowing what it is you're doing?

An HID kit is electrically the same as the bi-xenon package.

Re: Installed HID conversion kit and getting a weird error message/warning!

I now get the message after putting the car into gear...I'm hoping the bulb out harnesses will correct this error message.

Does anyone know off-hand how to adjust the aim of the headlights?

Congratulations, you are blinding people. HID lighting in a reflector halogen housing, is absolutely the worst thing you can do.

Re: Installed HID conversion kit and getting a weird error message/warning!

so I tried the bulb-out "adapters/resistors" from sharphid.com and they didn't work...I also bought a VAG COM tool from Ross-tech and tried to alter the coding as stated above and that didn't work either. I going to take the car into the dealer and see what they can do...

thanks for the help, but I don't have any lights flickering or radio "buzz" so I think my problem is a little different that's all. I'm going to try the dealer and then go w/the resistors as a last resort

PROBLEM SOLVED!! It ended up being the battery relay harness that was causing this error message. I removed the harness and installed the capacitors and now the error message is gone...thanks for the help, guys!!
