I just cant catch a break with this fucking car...turbos 3 months ago....now this. Sweet...my 20K car has now turned into a 30K car I can get it into first.....I just have to push with all my strenght...So the tranny comes out in 2 weeks. Talked to Jason @jhm tonight and am going to do the full rebuild (shift collar and syncros). I did run a kick ass time for being on 93 octane before the 2nd run where the tranny took a dump. It's been really had to shift into first as of recently, and the shift to second went crunch crunch and thats ALL she wrote. I really want to burn this car to the ground. I still owe many thousand on my CC. Well now the car wlll be bullet proof when I get done rebuilding it. This is my first tranny rebuild, so wish me luck.


My one run:

2700ft elevation (the car felt SLOW) I was up visiting a buddy in the mountains
1.80 60ft
8.31 ET
88 MPH

All on 93 octane shifting VERY, VERY, VERY slow to second gear on the run. The car down at my elevation (750 ft) has a 7.80 @ 91 mph in it on pump, sans shifting.

You don't know the half of it man. Sucks about your tranny, but you have nothing on frimmel...believe me.

This is why i've sworen to baby my 1-2 shift after I got a free (lucky) rebuild under warranty.

I did the full rebuild from JHM about 6000km ago when i did my stage 3..

it has worked wonders and holds a lot of the street abuse i give it..

Trust me this tranny is not that bad. The DSM cars I owned had possibly the worst transmissions ever made.

The thing that you always have to keep in mind is that you're pumping alot more power through this drivetrain now. You are far surpassing the levels that these parts were made to support. Trannys, CV joints, diffs, carrier bearings, etc, will not last as long in these conditions. Just a fact of life...

have fun, it is not hard to do the rebuild at all. the only thing i hated was putting it back in... oh and the other night my driver cv axle broke off the transmission!! i have yet to look at it, its been sitting in the garage for a week now...

Also do you really think a 2700ft elevation would slow you down that much? I just can't imagine that anything under 6000 ft or so would make much of a difference.

If cash is an issue you can do a partial rebuild without the 3-6 synchros, and just swap your current 3-4 synchros with the 5-6 since the 5-6 wear less and are identical.

Not necessarily. Any shift involving 2nd gear can do it. For me it was a hard shift and grind going from 1st to 2nd.

Yes, elevation makes a huge difference. Even 2700 ft will make a difference.

Launching has very little to do with the 1-2 collar locking up. A missed shift is all it takes.

It's tough to say exactly what his car is capable of at sea level. Every car is an individual, and until he takes it to the strip at sea level, we'll never know what the exact effect of high elevation really is on his times.

I know that you had a auto IS that was built up but honestly I don't feel anything out of the ordinary, car feels the same as back then when it was stock just with the added power I don't let the TCU shift on its own @ redline I let off the throttle, shift up and then get back on the the accelerator its that transition is what you're seeing. But I will take into mind what you're saying but the car feels solid. Does 3.8 FAT's times/pulls no problem all day and bottomline is..no 'slipping' of any sort but i will keep an eye on it
