Anyone know if this is even possible / anyone does this? If not, any alternatives?

ive heard ppl trying to do this and it would cost about 150 a wheel to do, not worth IMO, you should just sell the rims in the classifieds and get brand new onyx black reps!

what about doing it yourself? you can buy powder coating guns for under $200. Then all you need is powder and a dedicated oven to bake them in. Unless of course you want to use your home cooking oven.

Yes I realize that but the VMR finish is whats peels, so he could possibly get a better job done by another shop. Plus I don't think your going to find it easy to replicate that exact finish so a simple gloss black might be easier.

agreed... you'd probably have to use a dark clear (<-- does it exist?) coat to get that onyx color

I have had my Onyx Black for a few months now, no problems, waxed and washed often though.

    Re: Painting/Powdercoating rims Onyx Black?

I represent one of the larger powder coating facilities in South Florida.
We would charge $100 per wheel for a single stage top coat.
If any powder coated product starts to peel, it means that the aluminum was not pre-treated correctly with the right chemicals. That is the main reason but the powder could be shit as well. We are certified to spray powders that have 5 year warranties and we also have powders with 10 year warranties! Our ovens are 40ft in length! We are open 24 hrs a day!

Let me know if you all have any questions about powder.
