Replaced Engine Speed Sensor, but still not starting

Wondering if anyone else has had this happen.

Other day, after getting off the highway, car stalled when leaving the stop sign. Tried multiple times to start, but no luck. Seemed to crank, but the engine would turn over for a spilt second and stall. Fortunate for me, a guy who stopped had was a mechanic and had his laptop with VAG software on it (waiting to receive the Palm VAG tool from the group buy). Code came up to be Engine Speed Sensor (G28) No Signal P0321. After getting the car towed home and swapping out the sensor, car still won't start and still getting the same code.

One thing we will try tomorrow is check the wiring to make sure it's fine and continue with some other things.

Anyone have this happen to them and if so what ended up being the root cause?

Sounds like a dead fuel pump.

Yah, something we discussed but wanted to double check the wires first. Didn't a meter tonight to do that though.

Check fuel pump fuse first, if it is blown, this may be the culprit. You can also jumper the fuse and get the fuel pump to run (easiest way to check if it is bad)

1.) Remove the dust cap on the end of the fuel rail
2.) With a valve stem remover take out the Schader valve on the fuel rail
3.) Use 36-48" of fuel line and put into a empty gas can
4.) Use a jumper wire on the fuel pump fuse (I use a 12V power supply)
5.) Make sure you have a fire extinguisher ready in case of an emergency
6.) Do NOT run the tank completely out of fuel

Great advice and appreciated. By the way, could you tell me what the part number is for the fuel pump in case it is toast.

    Thanks.
