I got Evo 9 stock front mount intercooler from my buddy
and planning to install it to my car 03 A4.
but I just ordered Deval front bumper and wondering is there enough space to install the intercooler after change the bumper.
Is there someone who already done this work?

    Re: Front mount intercooler.

why would you put an evo intercooler on your car? its not designed for our cars. if you can do some of your own bending/welding you might could get it to work but you are better off buying a kit like racetec ER sport, awe or one of the others

    Re: Front mount intercooler.

the Evo Inlets and outlets point down so you will have 2 odd bends in your piping, also do not forget to get a map sensor bung and have that welded after the pipe.

Also the EVO core is good till about 300hp there abouts. but if you change the endtanks to fit your car you should have an efficient core and low cost, much better than an ebay core being it actually had some R&D

    Re: Front mount intercooler.

evos will run up to 400 HP on the stock intercooler. The down side to the evo intercooler is it is tube and fin, not bar and plate.

First of all, learn some grammer, second, unless you drive an EVO, don't use an EVO FMIC

do some reading -- tube and fin isn't always worse.... bar and plate has worse heat soak, and if the t/f core is constructed well - it will have the same (if not less) pressure drop. it's ALLLL in design.
there's a reason that supras, evos, skylines, etc all come with t/f from the factory...

and technically speaking, there are new forms of water/air heat exchangers that work FAR better than any air/air setup out there... there's a company which develops parts for the Porsche 944T almost exclusively which has developed a near 0 restriction, 0 pressure drop, and EXTREMELY efficient form of intercooling by using specially constructed piping. i'll try and find the link/article on it.

it's a really interesting design, and i'm tempted to give it a try on the a4 and see if i can't shorten up/simplify my intake plumbing while retaining all of (if not gaining some more) performance.

and the evo IC might work better if you flip it upside down. if you're getting a killer deal on it i say you go for it, if you're going to end up paying what you would for a kit anyways -- just skip on the evo IC

    Re: Front mount intercooler.

here you go -- found the page. Lindsey Racing is the company making these -- and I can tell you from experience that they do know what they're doing, and they're also top-notch on customer service. Anyone interested should give dave or mike a call and talk to them about it, and see how practical it is for whatever their given situation/application is.

I have done a lot of reading about intercoolers. Every intercooler has its down and upsides. Also their is a reason why all the evos and supras upgrade the stock intercooler to a bar and plate intercooler. I would rather have a more durable and efficient intercooler for street use.
