    Wheel Center Caps

The OEM center caps on my wheels are discoloring and turning yellow. I went to the dealer and they will not replace them under warranty. The parts dept wants $54.00 each. Has anybody experience this problem? What was your solution.

    Re: Wheel Center Caps

My 2006 has this too but I just bought it a couple weeks ago. When I take it in for the 25k service I'm going to see if they will replace them under warranty. If not I'll prime/paint them myself if I can figure out the right color to spray them.

No, no... The paint is actually coming off the centers showing the yellow plastic color underneath. No cleaner can fix that

oh my bad, from reading his post , doesnt sound like its the paint , sounds like he's talking about the yellow grime that gets stuck around the corners of the caps.. if its the yellow under the paint.. then DEF no cleaner will do that ... lol.. but he still can go to ebay for cheaper caps

This is a common problem, and no, they will not cover it. Order a can of Wurth silver; this is the exact silver paint that is used on the OEM wheels. It will match like a charm. Just sand before you spray, and mask off the chrome center part.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably just buy the paint. Is the paint available thru the parts dept?

No problem. Mine's an 05.5 like yours. The paint started peeling and making weird cracks in the clear. Dealer didn't even question it.

Which wheels are you guys having this problem with? I have the premium split spokes on my 2005 and have no issues... Just wondering if I should expect them to peel soon or not

    Re: Wheel Center Caps

i bought it 7 months and 23k miles ago (total mileage is 44k) ; not sure if the orig. owner did something stupid to it or not but only one is jacked up; it's all yellow underneath. i was rather pissed at the dealers telling me that audi was aware but not replacing them under warranty and have just been too busy to bother tracking down a replacement

Mine are doing the same thing on the right side of my car... no idea why... if I don't think about it and look at it, I'm happy... but now that the New England winters have come to an end, and I clean my baby day in and day out... it's horrible... Audi should really cover this as it is their faulty protection screwing up our wheels....

I bought mine used with just under 23k on it (about 2 weeks ago ) and they came with the paint peeling. It's a 2006 with the 17" split 5-spokes.

Besides 'GottaAudi2' has anyone had any success with the dealer replacing the caps? All 4 of mine are pretty bad, some worse than others. My 35k service is coming up soon and would like to know if anyone had any success?

What dealer in MA do you go to? I was going to go to Bernardi, but never made it out there, I went to Audi of Nashua instead twice and both times they refused to give me new covers.

i want to know which dealer in Mass do you go to also. I asked Prime Audi in Westwood and they want to charge me $54.00. That dealer sucks anyway. Not to mention all they want is your money. They wanted $300 plus labor to fix my headlights which Brookline Audi did it under their TSB. They have nooooooo knowledge whatsoever. i would never do business with them. Sorry for being angry.... :)

    Re: Wheel Center Caps

I actually just called the dealer I bought my car from and the service rep claims that he knows about the issue. I then asked him if this would be covered under warranty and he said, "After a certain period of time it must be approved by the service manager." I then asked him what qualifies for "certain period of time" and he said that first year or 12,000 miles.

So it looks like if this happens to you within the first year then it's covered under warranty, if it happens after that its gotta get approved.

Does Audi of America do anything about it? It shouldn't even need to go through approval in my opinion....

Since my dealer says they had replaced a bunch of them I do not see it being an issue. Although with my luck, they'll give me some poor excuse!

I have the very same problem and asked my dealer in Norway. Whaiting for answer (but it seams to me that he is avoiding it).
However, he didn't avoid to tell me the price which is around 70$ for 1 pcs.
I would post picture but I don't know how.

P.S. you can see picture clearly in my gallery

Mine were getting very bad. I don't have a photo of them on the car yet but they look like a factory paint match.

Lol, I like to resurrect dead threads. I'm sure a lot of people are just like me who googled this and only found thread upon thread of 6-7 years of age. So I thought I'd post up and share people are still going through this issue. The paint color is perfect. I tried clearing the chrome ring and Audi rings and it ruined the chrome, so I repainted over that with chrome again and it just wasn't the same. It's like a slight more metallic shade of the wheel so it looks different but not chrome. I'll post a picture of these puppies on my ride. So you all can see how well they blend. And so you all know, I scrubbed them with soap, rinsed, dried, sanded with 320grit to rough up, then rewashed without soap to get the sanded particles off then dried and painted multiple coats first 2 coats lightly then a thicker coat, then another 2 light coats and a thick coat of clear and a light coat of clear to finish it off.

now THAT'S the way to do a necro-bump!! You are learning, grasshopper... but always expect a rash of crap for any necro-bump. That's just the way it is, but I will give you credit for not taking it like a little pansy. Doing that just guarantees an onslaught from the AZ community
