Speeding ticket/tint/modded exhaust :(

Hey Audizine, I got a nasty ticket about a month ago and now is the time for inspection to clear my car. First off the ticket i had was 61mph in a 40 zone and he got me for tinted taillights and modded exhaust. My mods are only Apr 91 program and a Eurocode testpipe. For the inspection i am worried if they find out that i have no cat because of the testpipe. I hear the fine is $1000 but what do u guys think i should do?

Pay off the inspector. As for the $1k fine, dont know if the law varies from state to state. But if I took it to a shop and they wanted to fine me Id take my car somewhere else. I cant see the shop fining you...only the police. Correct me if Im wrong.

If you don't have a cat they're just going to fail you and I don't think that there is a fine for not passing the inspection.

But like Latin Audi says, laws are different in every state.

If you don't have a cat, you WILL fail. Borrow someone's test pipe. As for the fix it ticket itself (regarding the exhaust), there are a few laws that contradict themselves. No, you're not supposed to change your exhaust, UNLESS its a replacement that's within legal limits to replace a damaged or broken one. I used that and got it written off on my last car, bc there's no way to prove the oem one wasnt damaged.


But yeah, eat the $10 for the tail light ticket and get a different set for the write-off, and since you're at a ref it'll probably be $38.50 or something like that to throw your car on the dyno. swap out a test pipe asap because they WILL fail you and you'll cause more headaches and cost more money and time.

Test pipe and california doesnt really work well with eachother lol.
its a $1500 fine if your caught messing with the "cat" system.
and do not take your car to the ref with the test pipe, your car is emitting harmful gases which is where the catalytic converter comes into play to convert those gases, but you dont have one so theres no way you can pass with a tp.

yea that's cali......here in vermont they dont give a crap unless your making noise with your exhaust to piss off cops which my brother did a few years back....

for the exhaust they will only check the decible level. Do you have an aftermarket exhaust also? Or just a test pipe?

wow....the only way they will ever fail you with a testpipe is if your car is older and needs a smog test also if it throws the CEL......with the apr or revo program it doesnt hence the TP file....just dont tell them anything and let them run the inspection...i too was worried until i went in w/o telling them and passed with flying colors....GL

haha you know it! When i came up here from NJ, I was surprised that all they did was beep the horn, check the lights and mess around with a few other things... Makes me wonder if they were just checking out my car

i know from my own experience u can just pay those tickets off...$180 for each mod...so it'll be $180 for exhaust and $180 for taillight total of $360... i guess you can put back original exhaust with that money but I paid off my ticket for smoked taillight and exhaust for $200. (they said it was a group discount or something lolll)

I'm sorry to say....you got what you deserved. Of all the states in this country, CA has the worst Air Quality problem. They try to fix that with inspections and strict emissions laws. I hope the 10HP was worth the $1000 fine you're going to have to pay.

Look...My point is that CA has the worst Air Quality in the country....and the gov't is trying to fix that...then you have selfish people like this guy who want a little extra power and care nothing for the atmosphere in which they live.
