    noob exhaust question

    What is the function of the center resonator?

    In a few of the custom exhausts I've seen, some eliminate the resonator and pipe 2.5" all the way back to hi flow mufflers, others substitute an x-pipe in there.

    Is it just a taste/exhaust tone different or is there any other functionality to it?

    reduce back pressure. sounds better if you keep the resonators and cut the mufflers out and weld in pipe and some nice tips IMO. Thats what i did on my 02 allroad. sounded nice and mellow and gave it a little extra juice.
    VW Touareg V10 TDI. Don't mess.

    Past: Stg. 2+ B7 2.0T, B6 A4 1.8T, Allroad 2.7T 6spd (<-monster), Chevys, Jeeps, and a Nissan.

    Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you, Body kits and decals are how much of a mess you leave on the wall.

    How loud is nice? I heard a mazdaspeed 3 running resonators and it was a little to loud for me!

    I ended up keeping the resonator and put on magnaflows instead of stock mufflers. Perfect IMO. Loud enough w/o being ricey or obnoxious.
