well i haven't done an official "biography"... (56k beware!)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
so here it goes! it's late, i'm not tired, and i'm out of beer.... oh well. (hopefully this keeps me occupied till i get tired)

and yes i know there's a member bio thread... but if im gonna spend time writing this up i want people to actually see it -- therefore i'll leave it here as long as the mods will allow it to get the traffic (i bet this goes in the chatterbox by tomorrow morning)

well -- on march 13th 2006 I left the Porsche community, and entered the world of audis and dubs. I can honestly say that it may have been one of the best things I've done thus far in my life. I sold my old car (literally, 1987) and drove straight to the dealership with the cash from selling the porsche in a bag hahahaha (my friend who I sold the 951 to actually drove me to the dealership in it.) and I proceeded to go through the paper work, and flop a $7000 down payment onto the table in a brown paper bag. That little bit of negotiation got the price dropped significantly, and (I think) I more or less stole the car....

At this point it was a 2003 Audi A4 1.8TQM (5spd), 21,310 miles, Platinum interior, non-sport, no xenons, previously owned by an older couple, zero previous modifications, and a perfect - completely up to date - service record. I was in love. hahaha.

here's how the car looked when i first got it (note - it hasn't been this clean since... the paint is full of scratches and dings now... it was PERFECT when i got it it's getting a respray soon though, and it deserves it)

well I got sick of the stock wheels pretty quick, and i got a sweet deal on some a6 fat 5's that i couldn't pass up... so i polished those babies up and got some new fogs.

blacked out grills were soon to follow -- i think these are the only pictures i have right after i did it... and i think they're both before i did the bottom. lol

next up were some HID's -- i retrofitted these off of a C5 A6, came out pretty good i think here's a side by side halfway through -- in the first picture it's HID on the left, halogen on the right.

Well i stayed in this "stage" for quite some time... moved away for college.. had almost zero money to spend, and had to scrape together every spare penny to keep modding (i was completely addicted by this point) next up was coilovers to this day they have been my absolute favorite mod, and i just can't look at any car the same ever again -- it's GOT to be slammed. hahaha. here's some low shots on some fat 16" rubber. the same weekend i did my coilover install i also joey modded my headlights and smoked my tail lights. also two of my favorite mods.

after getting my drop and starting on a few simple and cheap exterior mods, i decided it was time to get serious with the engine. Next up was full turbo back exhaust over winter break - I dont think i have any pictures... but you all know what it looks and sounds like. custom TP, DP, no resonators, and maggy 14851's. after that i switched to some 3000k HID fogs, installed my FMIC and continued piecing my BT kit together. I think I started getting parts to go BT around January... and I should be finishing and installing everything the beginning of next month (May) so that's not so bad for a more or less fixed budget. here's a few shots of the "in between" stages. this includes my bronze 19's, my FMIC install, tint, and some other misc. things.

and i think that's all for now -- I'll update with more pictures and story line once the BT and all that crap goes in. I'm also planning on picking up a set of 17's to have some fun with (i try to take it easy on my 19's in the corners..)

    current mod list:
    -A6 HID retrofit (4300k)
    -VVME HID fogs (3000k)
    -Silverstar Ultra Highs
    -DIY blackout grills

    -Delphi 440cc Injectors
    -USRT fuel rail spacers
    -Hitachi E coils
    -Bigger FMIC

    -QTP electric cutout
    -Oil/Coolant/stuff for the turbo install
    -REVO stg. 3
    -034 Track Density Motor Mounts
    -034 Track Density Tranny Mount
    -17x8 Rota Torque
-a spare passenger headlight (mostly to fuck with people's heads - if you don't get it now you'll see pictures next month... if you think you do get it don't say anything. hahaha)

hope you enjoyed -- it took a good bit of time to track down those various pictures... they're strewn all across teh interwebz/my photobucket/my computer.

and most importantly -- i want to say thank you to Audizine, and all of the people here that have helped me with problems, finding parts, giving advice -- everything. I wouldn't be ANYWHERE without you guys, and I'm looking forward to many many years with my B6. You guys rule

    Very Nice Daniel.

You're going with an ATP manifold over the 034 manifold?

Those wheels came out well. They compliment the dolphin gray nicely!

Do you have a boost gauge? I'm going to make that digital rear-view mirror gauge. Interested? You'll just have to send me your mirror.

Too bad I got rid of my spare passenger headlight otherwise it'll be yours.

I'm digging the bronze and normally hate the RS4 look. You made a repentant convert out of me. Looks tight!

The bronze RS4's stand out great against the DG. Lovin it.

Lovin the stance too! You wasting no time! I have had my car longer (lby like 2 months) and have made very little progress compared to you

Re: well i haven't done an official "biography"... (56k beware!)

I'm really confused right now. I have come to the state of mind that I'm not sure if I like the bronze wheels, or if I don't like them.

NORMALLY, I would say no go on anything that isn't red, black, white and some shades of blue. But when you look at your car as a whole and not focus on the wheels, I don't think it looks all that bad.

    Looks good.

Re: well i haven't done an official "biography"... (56k beware!)

thanks guys i'm glad that most people are feelin the bronze, i LOVE it. hahahaha - i've always had a thing for gold/bronze wheels.

to answer a couple questions - qtp cutout is an exhaust cutout that you open with a little switch inside the car. that mod is more for fun that performance - just something to piss off the neighbors

i got a good deal on an ATP from a member here - and it's allowing me to do a couple other things with the money i saved, i'm not too worried about cracks... we'll see how it goes.

yes i switched intercoolers -- the smaller one is on the car at the moment, the big boy goes back on later - i just threw it on for a day to drive around and see what kinda looks i got. (although i didnt really notice any decrease in performance with the big one.)

and doug -- I'd be interested, but i dont think i'll have the money for it. I'm probably going to just get a "its cheap but it works" kinda gauge just to keep an eye on things.

glad i could inspire some people who are also on tight budgets to do a little more I'm nowhere near "DONE" as next summer my money (assuming i have some to spend) is going towards a built 2.0/head, 3076, cams, etc etc etc. this setup is to hold me over till i can get that second engine done and in the car, and also to be a learning experience for me. this is the first time that i've had time, money, and a car that was consistently running well which i could modify and work on to this extent. (by that, i mean to actually do it MYSELF and not pay a shop to do it.) Who knows, maybe i'll pick up a cheap b5 and put this setup in it if i really love it that much. hahahaha.

right now i'm thinking USP because it's clean - cheap - i won't have to get side skirts to make it flow - and it's OEM. we'll see, my other option that i've been leaning towards is kerscher.

Re: well i haven't done an official "biography"... (56k beware!)

Well, in just the short time between making this thread and actually getting all my BT stuff in I've made a few changes...

the first and biggest was deciding NOT to go with revo (I have my reasons...) and to try out this whole unitronic thing. I figured that since so many of the dub guys have been running it with absolutely FANTASTIC results, it couldn't hurt for me to give it a shot. I'm also going with much larger injectors. Some say overkill (and i have to agree) but i won't have to upgrade those down the road, and atleast I'm not maxing them out...

I've also elected to run a MAF-less tune, to delete my TIP all together, construct a custom heat shield/airbox, delete my PCV, SAI, and EVAP, and to try and start cutting weight wherever possible. I'll let everyone know how these things go - for the most part I'm not worried as Unitronics disables all readiness checks and that's really the only thing i care about. (passing inspection each year.)

new pictures soon - custom IC hardpipes are coming... yes they fit better (just from test fitting) than your pre-fab kit, yes my core is as big (or bigger), and yes -- it was half the cost. gotta put my exhaust back on, open downpipe is hella fun though.

what it boils down to is that i've made lots of changes, and I'm happy with each one. Ask questions if you want, and i'll do my best to answer them. be on the look out for those new shots sometime soon.

    Daniel,
What size injectors did you wind up going with? How do you like the unitronic tune thus far? Do you have the ability to permanently remove codes for SAI insufficient flow and such? How was your BT installation?

Good to hear this is moving along and you are happy. Props for doing something different.

    Enjoy!

    can't believe i missed this post/didnt answer ---

I'm on 630cc injectors, and i LOVE the uni tune. All my readiness checks are permanently set to "pass" and i have driven the car daily, and in nearly all situations (highway/city/short distance/long distance) with no CEL, no codes, and no problems. the car is running great, and I'm working my way though the gaggle-fuck that is our vacuum line lay-out.

how's your setup coming? any updates?

well - i might as well bump with updates --

my head and block are done, being assembled (put back on each other, being timed, and the accessories bolted up) then it goes back in with a full set of 034 track-density mounts, the rest of my JHM stuff (stabilizer and linkage), my FE SS, profec B (or AVC-R), custom single exit 3" turboback, the 3071R/Tial 38mm, INA intake mani, and random other goodies..

should sound pretty mean, scoot a little harder than before, and run like a dream clear to 8k... i'm excited to knock out that first thousand miles ASAP. (motor and clutch break in... its gonna kill me being able to boost the motor but not the clutch )

pictures of all the new shiz coming soon.

I have a USP front over an ER Comp. You shouldn't have a problem getting the USP front over your IC with a little trimming.

Whats size is your intercooler (from endtank to endtank)?

My intercooler is pretty damn big and I had some problems with it fitting over my stock front, but I eventually got it to fit, and I retained the stock fogs.
