    Re: H & R Springs & Spacers

I kept the original DRC system because the front o/s shock was leaking and was replaced under warranty FOC. I had to pay to have the n/s spring replaced as I used H&R Sport Springs and spacers. This is not a DIY job unless you have the proper equipment to depressurise and repressurise the DRC. I fitted the rears myself as you do not need to interrupt the DRC.

Be sure to order the 150mm hub face spacers that fit the RS4 - part number 202555713.

The UK supplier for H&R spacers is MSTuning in Essex, UK Tel 01375 392230.
The German factory is Tel +49 272 192600. The US factory is +360 738 8881.

    Re: H & R Springs & Spacers

Can you shed some more light on the install as to why the shocks need to be de-pressurized?

And how is the ride with the H&R springs and stock shocks?

    Re: H & R Springs & Spacers

I believe that the DRC is a closed loop, pressurised fluid system running at something over 12 bar. The rear spring is independent of the shock and can thus be replaced without compromising the DRC system. However, the front spring is on the suspension leg and to remove it safely and fit the new spring, you need to depressurise the DRC on that diagonal (e.g front o/s and rear n/s). As the car would then sit lower, i.e the suspension leg is more compressed, this would lead to increased pressure in the system. Audi already seem to have an issue with leaking suspension legs - one of mine was replaced under warranty and thare are lots of posts from owners on this subject ( see RS246.com ) so increased pressure is a no-no.
As regards ride and handling, I haven't had the chance to really find out yet as it hasn't stopped raining! It does feel a lot 'tighter' but some of this may be as a result of replacing the previously squashy, leaking front o/s. I'll report later once I've had a chance to really drive it.

    Re: H & R Springs & Spacers

Nope - this is a corrected figure. JDEngineering, to whom I went for the re-map and dyno runs, are in Holland but as I had the exhaust fitted in the UK, I could not get a direct 'before and after' dyno run. However, a fellow UK RS4 owner had his standard RS4 re-mapped at JDE and it showed:
Pre re-map 422.8 DIN Trq and 393.5 DIN Hp.
Post re-map 437.5 DIN Trq and 409.1 DIN Hp.
My post re-map 449.6 DIN Trq and 431.3 DIN Hp. Assuming both engines are similar as standard, and also assuming that both re-maps are broadly similar, then the increased is due to my 200cat, custom s/s exhaust. Better breathing - looking forward to reading someone's before and after post of the GruppeM carbon intake.

    Re: H & R Springs & Spacers

Caldy, can you describe the differences between the stock springs and the H&R's as soon as possible. I really like the ride of the stock setup but would like it to have a stance like yours.

Also, can you take a pic of the spacers and post it like the one that I posted below. If not, then can you supply a part number for the spacers that you used. I want to make sure that you are running the right spacers as I had an issue with mine.

    Re: H & R Springs & Spacers

I had a similar problem sourcing the correct spacers in the UK - I'm using 202555713 i.e. the 150mm hub face.

    Re: H & R Springs & Spacers

Cool, you got it right. The shop ordered the wrong spacers for me and as soon as they went on the car, I looked at them and said take them off, they don't fit. Got the right ones on order and am waiting.

I want to do the springs and just want to know how you like them compared to the stockers.

    Re: H & R Springs & Spacers

What is the ride like after installing the H&R springs compared to what the stock springs rode like ?

I've purchased the H&R springs but have yet to install them - just wondering what to expect in terms of ride comfort?
