    Re: Cleaning Out my Motor

I am planning on removing the intercooler and cleaning it both externally and internally (using fuel). I guess that wouldn't hurt. No money for an upgraded intercooler so I'll try bringing mine close to "new"

Try craigslist. I just picked up a used Neuspeed FMIC for $250, and there are intercoolers listed regularly that are in the same price range. I just held out until one came along in the right size.

nihil, thanks for the info. However, I currently plan on keeping it very stock-looking so the only intercooler upgrade I will eventually consider is a SMIC. I see Tyrol as the best one for the price currently, but that's still too much for me. A clean OEM SMIC will already be an upgrade

When I did my timing belt, i removed my SMIC and cleaned with fuel....so much junk came out of it. No difference driving wise, but it was nice to know it was clean

can you elaborate on what the "junk" that came out of the SMIC was? Im curious what could have made its way to it, other than petroleum derivatives and filtered air. Perhaps I'll clean the stocker when I do the TB in a month....
