valve cover gasket

hi, i just changed my valve cover gasket due to excess oil on my spark plugs, now that i think back, should i have used a gasket maker also? Would this have made a difference? As i noticed a slight touch of oil on the plug wires and am wondering if this maybe leftovers, or is the same problem.

did you tighten it from the middle out?

no big deal just pop it back open and put some gasket sealant on it

should I have tightened it from the middle out? I dont think i did, I know i put the middle bolts on first, but didnt really tighen them first.

doesn't matter since you didn't have any sealant

Always tighten in stages from the middle out. There are four spots that need a little dot of RTV. They are where the flange goes from flat to the raised sections.
