My girlfriends 05.5 A4 is in the shop so she got an 08 A4 loaner and when I jumped in it yesterday I noticed how much lower the engine nosie is. Did Audi change something to make the engine sound quieter??? Diesel's only sound good when you're getting 40mpg to 50mpg

The 2.0T engine is what I was talking about, I didn't know the V6 made a lot of engine noise too. It would be nice to get some of that engine noise down on the 2.0T. I wonder what Audi did to minimize the noise, I haven't opened the hood yet to see if the engine noise is louder from just the engine bay, if it is just as loud then maybe they put more sound deadening material in the cabin.

i believe that they changed the fuel pump making it quieter and eliminating the cold start issue in the late 2007 models. How i would really love to have that new fuel pump, my only problem with the car is that....

Re: Has anyone driven the 08 A4's and noticed the lower engine noise

your car takes like 10 sec or more to start when the temp is below 50. sometimes even 60.
some ppl in really cold climates, such as our friends the canadians cannot get the cars to start and it takes multiple tries. i dont think it effects the 2007 only ppl with the problem are 2005.5 and 2006 but i could be wrong just guesses from reading forum threads.

so no need to worry... at least for you my friend

Re: Has anyone driven the 08 A4's and noticed the lower engine noise

I live in a hot and humid area so I dont experience the cold start problems but my 06 B7 did sound horrible! I remember taking it in to the dealer complaining that it sounding like a diesel. I had the mechanic come and assure me that it was normal and that there was a part of the FSI system that sounded like that. It drove me bananas but I ultimately gave up on it since I knew my lease would be up soon. My new 08 is like a dream come true in comparison. Little to no engine noise, and definitely, no complaints from me...
