What would cause a clunk when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd in a 2.8 30v auto/tip (does it in both modes) when braking for a stop. But, if I roll up to the slop slowly, it won't do it. Also, I can brake hard for the stop but let off on the brake right when I know it's going to clunk and it'll shift smoother too.
The point in which it downshifts and clunks seems to take place right at the torque split "dead spot" that the 2.8's are known for. Obviously that makes sense that it would clunk at the spot it's supposed to shift, but I dunno, makes me think tranny/diff mounts?
Only thing I have to go off of is that supposadly a magnet may have gone through the tranny from getting knocked out of the bottom of the tranny pan since a mechanic noticed a dent on the pan that looked like something had been ran over. He showed me some debris in the oil when I had it flushed but to this day I'm not 100% sure that's the culprit.
I will say that I recently fought a CEL issue with cat inefficiency and when I'd reset the CEL the car would drive MUCH smoother. All I've done is used defoulers on the rear o2's to get rid of the CEL but it hasn't seemed to been driving any better.
