Loud clunk when decleration?

It seems like the only time I need to Post anything is when Im having a problem.

I did a few searches on this and only found threads related to manual transmissions.

I have a 01 1.8Qtip with 113,000. (Stock)

I have recently been hearing and feeling a loud thunking noise when I take my foot off the gas. Almost feels sounds like Im hitting a pot hole. It usually happens when the car is decelerating. It dosent happen all the time but just started happening. For instance this morning i was getting on the entrance ramp to highway i hit the gas and was up to about 65 and then let off the gas. about 2 sec later THUNK. The transmition is just left in the auto position Im not playing with it. It never happens when the car is speeding up. It also never (hasnt yet) happend at slow speeds. Seems to only happen when Im around 40-70mph.
Also no codes have been thrown so I dont think its the speed sensor.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

check your engine or tranny mounts and also your snub mount which is in the front. sounds like a mount issue to me.

if you go slow and hit the brakes hard do you hear it?

Under Decel. causing the thud, would make me look at Diff Mounts and tranny mounts. WIth that many miles the majority of the mounts and bushings are shot 100%.

I will check the Mounts tonight when i get out of work. What exactly am i looking for?

Loose bolts mostly. If you have anything that will work as a pry bar, see if you can get the mount or engine/tranny to move while attached to the mount. Do the same with any bushings, see if they are ripped on the inside (you'll know when you see it)

So last night after driving home I started braking hard to see if it would cause the noise. No dice. It only happens sometimes after gunning the gas some where around 40 or above mph and then taking my foot completly off. Then as gears back down, CLUNK.
But well doing this I noticed my Speedo is SLOW. I never realized I how much I dont pay attention to that, but as the car increases in speed it takes a while for the needle to tell me what speed Im at. And it does the reverse when slowing down. If I slam on the brakes it takes a few seconds for the needle to fall. And to top it off the check engine light popped on. SO as soon as I get time to run the codes I'm going to guess that its the speedo sensor? I'll check the codes this weekend along with the mounts.
