    Steering rack/inner tie rod grease

My 2001 S4 steering rack crapped out on me and I got a used one for A LOT cheaper than a new/rebuild one. However it didn't come with inner tie rods. So i figured I could just use my own. However, the eBahn manual lists a specific grease, part number AOF 063 000 04, it's also listed as A0F 063 000 04, the only difference being the second digit is a zero not an "O". It goes on the teeth of the rack and the ball and socket joints of the inner tie rod. This grease is on national back order, so the dealer tells me, and they don't even know what kind of grease it is. The parts guy even asked the service tech, and he didn't know cause all the racks they get are pre-assembled.
Does anyone know what type of grease this is or one I could use in it's place? Molly, Mobil One Synthetic, wheel bearing, bacon fat, whatever. I just need to get my car running again, I don't have time to wait for the Dealer. Thanks!

your crazy to use a used rack... a rebuilt rack is 300.00 with new inner tie rods and boots.. its not worth going with a used rack and have that go bad and do the job all over again, trust me, replacing the rack is a job that you only want to do once.. most shops charge like 10 hrs labor.. good luck

Yes, where can I get a rebuilt rack for $300? I looked but I couldn't them that cheap. I'm doing this myself so the labor is free. But I'm still stuck with a rack that needs grease. Anyone have a clue?

I talked to an Audi service tech and they said they use run of the mill Anti-Seize on the inner tie rods. Does this sound right? I'm looking at my Napa brand anti-seize, the silvery type stuff, and wondering if that's a good idea. Any thoughts?

I just used silicon. It works like a charm, haven't had a single problem.

Replacing steering rack boots due to tear and rack does not look dirty due to exposure but wonder about proper grease for rack teeth. Any advise out there?

    Thanks, 2old2turbo
