    Re: adding amp and sub?

    I added an amp and sub to my 04 a6 which had the factory non-bose amp and sub in the trunk. i ran my power cable from the battery and then got speaker level inputs and the remote turn on lead from the wiring harness in the trunk. I can post what color wires were what later tonight when i get home if that would help anyone out. all i remember is that the white wire is the remote turn on.

    Re: adding amp and sub?

    My set up was the non-bose radio and speakers. To hook up an amplifier and sub I tapped into the speaker level inputs of the wiring harness for the sub in the trunk, and ran those into a line level converter, then ran the RCA's from that into my amp. You will need to look for 4 wires; 2 gray/blue and 2 gray/red. The gray/red are the left channel and the gray/blue are the right. To get a signal from these wires, i used t-taps. In order to know which is the (+) and (-) i just took a normal bookshelf speaker out of my house and hooked up the speaker wires to that. whichever ones had the best bass response when hooked up, you knew that was the correct (+) and (-). I ran a power cable (4 gauge) from the battery into my trunk, located a good ground spot, and then used another t-tap to get a remote turn on lead from the amp. This is the white wire. after all was said and done, I've got a well rounded system now in my a6. Sorry for no pics, may be able to borrow a friends digital camera to post some pics later. Let me know if you need any other help/direction.

    Re: adding amp and sub?

    I added a 2 channel amp bridged to a single 12" sub in box today. My vehicle: 2000 A6 with bose. I thought about writing a detailed "How To" guide, but really, it was so easy. I am not going to bother. Don't be afraid to try this. It took me 3 hours, and I am not THAT mechanically inclined.

    Here's a couple pics and notes of the important stuff:

    Nothing special here. I cut through the grommet that the A/C hoses go through. The glove compartment assembly comes off with five 8mm bolts. The right side kick panel comes off with two philips screws. Route the wire through there. The bottom trim just pops off. Some of the clips stayed in the holes, so be sure to pull these out and put them back where they belong before reattaching the trim. The lower backseat just unsnapped with an upward motion. I ran the cable right under the seat and up into the trunk.

    I grounded the amp off the bolt that sticks down in the center of the rear deck in the trunk. Be sure to scrape the paint off to get a good connection.

    The bose amp has 2 harnesses. I tapped the remote (or switched power), from the main harness. Its the white wire with the arrow pointing to it. I used a Speaker Level to Line Level converter which had an optional audio ground wire. I tapped the larger brown ground wire for this.

    For speaker level inputs I tapped the wires that run from the bose amp to the bose subs. I did this because it has a separate harness on the front side of the bose amp with only four wires. They are as follows:

    Blue/Green = Right Pos +
    Blue/Yellow = Right Neg -
    Black = Left Pos +
    White = Left Neg -

    I ran two feet of wire off these and hooked those into the Line level converter. I liked this idea for several reasons. 1. I am not messing with the main harness. 2. the sub outputs off the bose have a built in crossover. 3. By going with a coverter, I am not messing around with the tiny wires associated with RCA cables off of the line inputs at the bose amp.

    Thats about it. The Line Level converter has RCA jacks so I just ran RCA from the converter to the amp. Test it all before you bolt everything down. I (obviously) haven't decided where to run the wires or mounted my amp yet so still a little work left. It sounds incredible except that by doing this, it really makes the lack of overall power of the rest of the stock system VERY OBVIOUS. Dammit, now I am starting to think about going to the aftermarket with the rest as well.

    I think its pretty obvious that he plans to hide the wires and mount the amp.

    This amp is old. I just wanted to get everything in and make sure it works. I will be replacing the amp very soon with a POLK C500.1 Monoblock. I am really impressed with them. Good clean sound, solid, and affordable. I posted just to show that the project is not difficult for those who are thinking of doing it.

    My overall goal is to get the sound while taking up as little space as I can. I still want to be able to fit 3 and all their gear on the winter snowbard trips.

    PROJECTDARKA4 - Take some pics. I know you are very meticulous. I want to see your set-up. Also, are you running stock for everything else?

    I got this from 5speed6 on audiworld. I haven't tested it, but I see no reason that he'd be wrong.

    25 pin connector at the amp.

    Pins 1 ~ 13 at the bottom of the connector, left to right.

    Pins 14 ~ 25 at the top, left to right.

    Pin 6 - Line in from radio, ground.
    Pin 7 - Line in from radio, right rear.
    Pin 8 - Line in from radio, left rear.
    Pin 9 - Line in from radio, right front.
    Pin 10 -Line in from radio, left front.
    Pin 24 -Switched power.

    Re: adding amp and sub?

    I didnt check this on mine, but from the diagram I have:

    Pin 6 - Line in from radio, ground. BROWN
    Pin 7 - Line in from radio, right rear. WHITE
    Pin 8 - Line in from radio, left rear. GREEN
    Pin 9 - Line in from radio, right front. YELLOW
    Pin 10 -Line in from radio, left front. GRAY

    You can always double check with multimeter and your balance and fader controls on the headunit.
