    Springs and 19's

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys got my 19's on and have noticed a big difference in the handling capabilities of my USP (decreased quite a bit). I want to get something to drop it slightly not looking for a full coilover setup or anything. The car is a lease and i just want drop springs to achieve a little different look and enhance the handling. Looking for some suggestions for springs and what type of drop i should go with considering my car is already lowered (USP) and i dont want any rubbing issues. Thanks for any input

    Re: Springs and 19's

You must have some really heavy wheels... and possibly wider tires? There really shouldn't be any difference in handling when changing wheels if the overall size and width remain the same. Audi's recommended tire size keeps the same width for 17's (235/45), 18's (235/40), and 19's (235/35).

You might want to look into getting a RS4 rear sway bar to help out.

    Re: Springs and 19's

your 19's shouldnt have changed the performance that much. If anything it should have made it a little stiffer because of the smaller side-wall...someone correct me if I'm wrong

    Re: Springs and 19's

my guess is you put new tires on your 19s? if so, tires need a few hundred miles to break in, until then they don't grip quiet as well.

    Re: Springs and 19's

Spend some extra cash and go with coilovers. I'm dumped on Neuspeed Race/Bilstein shocks and seeing as how on our cars the front camber is dependent on ride height, I'm having all sorts of weird wear issues on my front tires.

    Re: Springs and 19's

you could try the eibach springs- i think they give the smallest drop of aftermarket springs. i like mine a lot and they arent too stiff- actually not stiff at all, with koni shock.

    Re: Springs and 19's

my bet on decreased handling is less sidewall and higher tire pressure is killing his turn in. i know that my car was MUCH less sensitive to a quick turn in on 225/45/17's than on the 235/35/19's i run now. you just have to drive a little differently. (i dont drive my 19's that hard anyways... that's what the 17's are for)

    that and unsprung weight suckksss.
    get an rs4 rear sway

I was also really surprised after the 19s. I used to use 18's for 4- years on my jeep and my audi total but when I went to 19s on A4, it was body rolling a lot, it releasing the rear easily, did not feel SAFE on them for a while.

Than I got used to the way I should drive with them.. Also if the " a few hundred miles on it content " is right, it also worked for me.

But I'm sure 19s need in the RS4 rear sways.. ( BTW I got non sport susp + AP -5 % -4 cm springs )

    Re: Springs and 19's

I don't get it. If the rolling diamater hasn't changed, how is there much change in the driving dynamics of the car? I've been rolling 18s, but have a set of 19's I'll be putting on in the next few weeks. Anything I should look out for?

RS4 rear sway bar will be the thing..

I have gone from 235/40/18 to 255/30/18 so my overal diameter changed but it was in the %3. But I experienced the lose of grip anyway..

I have not any technical knowledge about that

    Re: Springs and 19's

Ya the problem i have is that the car feels much mroe susceptible to getting loose and much more body roll over the 18's. i drive it pretty hard and it seems to reach its limits much sooner.

Cheap tires and heavy wheels can make the handling feel lethargic and sometimes sloppy.
