    Race gas prices going down!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just picked up two 55gal barrels of Sunoco GT+ 104oct yesterday. Last year at this time I was paying $8.69 a gal. Now I'm paying $7.52 a gal!!! I can't believe this, simply awesome. Makes it a lot easier on the wallet to break the new engine in on race gas again.

Shit, filling up my Duramax with Diesel is prolly gonna cost more than filling up the audi with race gas by the end of the summer lol

My engine is back... I'm stoked. Just got to wait for my new sprung clutch disc to get here tomorrow, then I'm good to go for install. This time around I went ahead and bought an engine lift from Harbor Freight. A tad easier than picking the fvcker up and getting it to receive the teeth on the trans...
    Wish me luck fellas!

Re: Race gas prices going down!

    Good deal!
I need to find race gas at that price around CT. Got any good websites I can search on?

Which harbor freight lift did you buy? How much? I need to drive up to Mass and buy one. This looks good: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...temnumber=7620

I've got their 1000lb engine stand I got for under $40

Shipping was good to your engine? Everything looks in tact? I think I'm going to email Bob and see how mine is coming along.

Which clutch are you using now?

I payed ~$139 or so for my engine lift. Using the FE SS clutch with Spec Steel 16lb single mass fly. Waiting for my clutch disc. Had to swap out my unsprung for a sprung. Will be here tomorrow... Go to Sunoco's website. You can search for race gas dealers in your area. They will deliver a 55gal drum to your door step!

I got a Sunoco dealer in Danbury that sells 100 octane 260GT at the pump for $7-8/gal and he can get any other Sunoco Race fuel for real cheap. I just went through a tank of 100.

Sweet. Thanks guys. Do you think the dealer in Danbury will deliver a drum to my house in West Hartford?

Looks clean Jordan! I like your style. How old is your house? Looks relatively new.

That APR stuff looks great! Glad it went to a good home.

I hope you are not kicking yourself too hard for selling it to me

Yeah just moved into this place last summer. built in 2003. 3 car garage FTW!

I order my gas from 60 miles away. Most likely it won't come from the place you buy it from. Just drop ships on a truck from a warehouse or something...

Yes, and No. More No. Despite some set-backs I'm very happy with the route I took (ASP). It also made your life one hell of a lot easier.

I wish my house was new. Mine was built in 1940 and has a 1 car garage that barely fits the Avant (can hardly walk around it). Its all good for a first house. Once I'm done with it it'll be nice and then I can sell it and find something with much more land and build my own garage (4+ bays with lift etc..)

I'm seriously thinking about installing a lift into my garage too. Prolly just a 2 post though as I think my garage door opener will get in the way...

Re: Race gas prices going down!

How tall is your ceiling? You need some height. My friend's garage is just the rafters for the roof pitch (we had trusses made so there's no attic or ceiling). The garage door tracks were custom made to follow the roof pitch so the doors go up along the roof (roof pitched front to back). My car fits on the lift (2-post) but with the cargo box on my car we can't open the garage door. And that's with a tall roof!

You can switch your garage door over to a torsion spring/shaft combo and a jackshaft motor that bolts to the front wall. This elminates the rear door opener. You can keep the door sections and maybe the upper track if its high enough. I used to install garage doors (commercial & residential), loading dock equipment and freight elevators while in college.

Nice, I was wondering if I could convert to something like that. that's ideal! Is it much more $$$ over the conventional rear opener setup?

My ceiling is between 10'-6" - 11' tall Would need to measure again to be precise... It is drywalled too

Re: Race gas prices going down!

It might be more money. You'll need a shaft, torsion springs, new cables, shaft bearing brackets (which hold it in place), center shaft support bearing and bracket and the jackshaft motor (which isn't cheap) with gears and chain.

    Residental Jackshaft operator:
    http://provantage.liftmaster.com/con...px?modelId=834

    Info on the spring systems:
    http://www.clopaydoor.com/GarageDoor-Spring-System.aspx

With 11ft ceilings you probably can't open the door with the car up in the air anyway. For cost reasons I'd just remove the door operator from that bay. If you had the ceiling height to have the door open with the car up in the air then an operator would be a "nice to have".

This is the lift we installed in my buddies garage:
    http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/HR.../tphr-8000.htm

It might work with an 11' ceiling. Probably not for me since I'm 6ft tall. I need the car at the upper-most (locked) position in order to go under it.

got it right there. how many miles is ideal to run with race gas to break in the engine?
the other thing is, do you need to tune your car to run the race gas? or you can just run the race gas with pump gas tune? I am thinking about doing this when I have my engine.

Re: Race gas prices going down!

I just run it with my pump revo bt tune and advance the timing with lemmiwinks. Make ~40whp/40wtq+ more with the race gas (even more power with my new setup).

With forged pistons, break-in time is slightly longer than with cast pistons. I'd say the car is 98% "broken in" at about 2000miles.... even though 80% of ring sealing on the pistons happens within the first ~20 miles or so. ~2000-3000 miles is when I'll switch back over to Mobile1 0W40 synthetic. You should always use dino type oil on break-in. Synthetic is too slippery and can cause more blow-by on the piston ring seal.... I use Castrol GTX 5W30 for break-in.

Nice. The GT100 is street legal. The GT+ 104 is for "off-road use only" (at least here in CO)

I would go MS109 VP (highest unleaded rating you can get (105oct)), but it's more expensive and the MTBE additive they use in it is illegal in CO...

I checked one of the MD dealer's website, the price aren't that different from each other. I think I want to order Sunoco 260 GT Plus (104 Octane-Unleaded) 55 gallon.
my question is, can this ever be shipped? I think it's very dangeous to do such a thing

Yeah, they ship it on an enclosed truck. They prolly just have to carry insurance for it...

Yeah. I noticed that. I'll have to call New England Racing Fuel (http://www.newenglandracingfuel.com/) to see what GT+ 104 costs. They are the distributor up here.

Are they in Connecticut? I didn't check their address.

I just paid $3.99 a gallon for Sunoco 93octane last night. It hurt but I only put $20 since my car is going under the knife on Saturday. Why pay for a full tank of gas to just sit for a month or so....
