    Engine bottom block build attemp.

My plan is to drop forge rods into my engine aeb with my next timing belt change.

I don't need any cleaning or bore it down if the compression is good - i just want to take it out get it back in and change all that valves and gaskets.

Question is how much time and money will this cost me.

I assume i would need a engine cherry picker and a engine stand.

reason i want rods is because i want to go gt3076r - and doing this by the most cost effective means

If youve got skills, you could probably put new rods in without pulling the motor. Ive seen it done in a b6. Dealing with the oilpan and the subframe is the hardest part.

based on your first two posts in this thread you need some serious redirection or otherwise need to pay someone to do this for you... i'm not picking on you, just trying to help you not make a mistake

if the engine is in good shape, you can get away with just replacing the rods and reusing the bearings and piston rings. Not the best way to do it though. Just check clearances and make sure the ring gaps and bearing clearances are in spec. you will have to pull the head, drop the sub fame, and remove the oil pan. to me its much easier just to pull the motor. It beats crawling under your car all the time.

yah - i saw what happen to the last guy - if i do take it to someone - i will take the engine out and bring it over for work - to have them bore it, with new rings, and bearing then balance the crank - and clean everything

but i am poor so i need more innovative ways - might get myself into trouble with this one

If you need someone to do the work let me know because I can line up the work to be done at Eurocode.

Re: Engine bottom block build attemp.

I did this years ago without pulling the engine. Got lots of pics too if you want to see them.

Start HERE and work backwards. I lightly ported the intake manifold and head, pulled the head, dropped the subframe, and swapped the rods, rings, oil pump, and some other odds and ends.

I've done this without pulling the engine as well, but only because I already had a fresh hone on the cylinders. If you're doing new rings, you should really pull the block and have it honed or bored at a machine shop.

Re: Engine bottom block build attemp.

there is on cheap way to prepare your engine for a GT30r. either you skimp in the beginning and end up having to go back in a fix and replace things that you neglected the first time, or you do it right the first time. Take this from someone who is wrapping up their build and doing it right the first time, unless you have loads of $$ to throw around, think twice. Also when you get a custom tune, the tuner will (or should...) tune specifically for what you have done to your car, so if you decide your ginna do cams a couple months down the road, and then do a different compression later, and so on and so forth, your tune will be all out of wack...do a lot of research before just jumping in, it is nowhere near as easy as it sounds.

Re: Engine bottom block build attemp.

Here is the rub. There is no way to balance an engine without taking it out of the car. The whole point of rods is to let the engine make more power but the big turbos need revs to do that. Revs and unbalanced engines don't play well for long.

The best plan is to swap the rods in the car and get the thing running with the larger turbo. Then build up a second engine on a stand and do everything the right way. Swap it in and sell the original built engine.

^^ thats how to do it if your not allowed a lot of downtime, if you have the luxury of having a second car, just do it right on our engine and save some $$ and effort.
