    Gradient Rings?

I'm not sure if anyone has tried this or not, and all I could find in the search was black rings.

I'm wondering what it would look like if someone did gradient trunk rings, like so:

I didn't take my time with this picture, so don't be critical, just giving an idea.

Now, I'm not sure if it would look dirty, or if it would just look like a damn cheetah and just out of place.

    Thoughts?

    Re: Gradient Rings?

Well now I wanna see someone do it.
I'd say results would vary based on the color of the car of course, I'm sure some colors would show the gradient color change & others would make it look like over spray.
It would be cool to get a set of rings though, spray em, then set them against different color A4 to see the results.

Well, it's not a decal. I guess it could be, but I was seeing if anyone has ever thought about or did color faded (aka gradient) trunk rings.

My guess would be with an air brush tip. Make it thin enough so it doesn't spatter. Do the base color of whatever you want the middle to be, then do the edges carefully and evenly.

I think I may try this. I won't put it on my car, because I have dolphin, and it just wouldn't look right. I would probably work with black or some other color like red, yellow, blue maybe.

    Re: Gradient Rings?

    I have an idea.

If made as a decal, the white part which you showed in the picture, can actually be made transparent, and make the black have a nice fade effect. So when you put the decal on the car, its actually Black (or whateve other color you choose) with the middle being the color of your car?
I think its possible the set the amount of transparency you want. Its an idea to play with if its a decal.

If its an actual emblem, you can do similar. Make it out of clear plastic for example, paint the top and bottom black or whatever and leave the clear.

    Interesting idea with some potential.

Just thought of it now, some of you might not agree with me :/

    Re: Gradient Rings?

The only fault I see in a decal would be ripples in the vinyl (I'm assuming that's what it would be). When you put a vinyl sticker on something rigid, it doesn't seem to fit right.

I'm gonna have to try it. I'll get a few sets of rings, a few cans of paint, and see what I can come up with. I'm not really interested in putting it on my car, but I'm just damn curious to see what it would look like.

    Re: Gradient Rings?

easy to do a gradient, tape off the center to leave it chrome and paint the top and bottom in black, but as u take a strip of tape off do a very light coat in that area so it looks like it is fading!

    Re: Gradient Rings?

That's the thing, if you tape it, it will make a perfect line. If you get a tip to make it not spatter, you only have to paint it twice.
